Do you dream of working abroad?

Here in the Philippines many people desire to work abroad. They think it's a great achievement. They are willing to sacrifice to leave their family and live in a faraway land. They believe they can get rich if they will work abroad. My siblings does not have plans to work abroad. My mother wouldn't want them to be so faraway so they just work in the city. Did you dream of working in faraway land when you are young?

I don't have a plan to work abroad. My family is here and it is a big cost if I work abroad alone because it will sacrifice our happy time together and this is not worthy for me.

@averygirl72 If this person is single, then it will be less troublesome. Try to imagine a married person, especially with children, it will be harder.

Yes you will sacrifice being away from your loved ones that's what I don't like. You will feel homesick abroad. But some people don't mind it as long as they will make lots of money abroad

After I resigned from my banking job , 20 years ago, I enrolled in caregiving course because I want to go to Canada then be a caregiver then get my husband and child. However, no matter how I tried looking for sponsors I wasn't able to find one. When I went back to the province, my husband and daughter told me, to just work here and that they don't want to live in Canada or abroad .

@averygirl72 I don't want elderlies. I want only babies or toddlers. Yes, it wasn't my destiny besides it has to be that my husband and child will like to live there. I realized, I can be happy living simply as long as my family is around me even my relatives, my parents and sisters.

That's my dream too to be a caregiver in Canada. Though I know it's hard to care for elderly. Maybe it is not your destiny

It's been more than ten years since I got sponsored for a job application abroad thanks to my aunt who used to work there. It cost us 4000$ all expenses. But all change when the embassy ended up rejecting my application. Since then I stopped thinking about going over there.

Well, Philippines is not country like ours, Nepal. I think Philippines is far more developed than ours. In our country, most of the people desire to go to abroad either for the studies or for the employment since there is no plenty job here. I don't this is the case for Philippines.

I disagree about you saying that other people don't mind if they will leave their family behind. They want to go abroad because of their family. They want to leave abroad for them to be able to provide for their family. Because, we know here in the Philippines (referring to families belonging to lower up to middle income bracket), no matter how you work hard, even if you work for long hours and have part time jobs, you still cannot provide enough for your family. With high tax being deducted from our salary, our take home pay should be divided for the payment for the monthly bills (water, electricity, internet, postpaid cellphone, credit cards, etc.). Not to mention that we, Filipinos, sometimes help to provide for the education of our siblings/nieces/nephews, maintenance medication of our parents and unemployed siblings (if you know what I mean). And if you don't own a house and lot here, you still need to pay for the monthly rent. That’s the time that we took advantage of the opportunities to work abroad. You may work abroad performing the same job you are currently hold and earn up to three times as much or more as you do now. And if you excel at your work, you will experience a fast promotion. So not only would you enjoy a higher salary, but you and even your family may also be able to experience a better lifestyle.

Nope I never wanted to leave the area when I was young. I don’t like the thought of leaving andy kids not growing up around their cousins. But some countries are so poor that leaving the country to find a good job might be a blessing for them.

Years ago, I thought about working abroad. Actually, I worked in different countries. It's a great experience and I would not mind to move again to another country for new experience as they enrich the person not only in experience, but in knowledge too.

I didn't have plans back then but when I got married, I started thinking of going abroad. If I stay here, I don't think I'll be able to save money for my future kids. On the other hand, if I work abroad, I guess I could save money for my family and come back in the Philippines when I have enough.

I think it depends on the person and family. It's best to venture out when young and find a stable footing before returning to home country or bring your family to you.
