I have used “Friday on My Mind” in a previous list and since then co-writer and rhythm guitarist George Young has passed away. Young was older brother to Angus and Malcolm Young and served as manager to AC/DC. “Monday morning feels so bad Coming Tuesday I feel better” And so forth. “Friday on My Mind” is a working class anthem expressing the slow drudgery of the work week and looking forward to Friday night stepping out with his gal. From the album “Good Friday” and co-written by lead guitarist Harry Vanda, the poignancy of “Friday on My Mind” struck a universal chord being a huge international hit going #1 Australia, #6 UK and #16 US. Lead vocalist Stevie Wright suffered from drug and alcohol abuse and died in 2015. The Easybeats were Australia’s first great rock band and “Friday on My Mind” considered greatest rock song down under. It has been covered by David Bowie, the Shadows, Peter Frampton, Blue Oyster Cult, Gary Moore and Richard Thompson.
