Racism

Last night, I watched a weekly top-rated television program, a franchise from America’s Got Talent, and the series is entitled Pilipinas Got Talent. The first contestant shown was a Korean who knew little English and not speaking Pilipino, and a Filipino action star called the attention of the Korean that he must speak in Pilipino because the show is “Pilipinas Got Talent”. The action star drew many bad comments from the netizens because they say it was a case of racism. The good thing is, a beautiful Filipina actress volunteered herself to be the subject of the Korean’s presentation even though they cannot communicate with each other in Pilipino. The Filipina actor named Angel L. is clearly an angel. Racism can be manifested in many other ways, and it is up to the subject if he or she allows himself or herself to be downgraded by others. Here is the link:
Sang ayon ba kayo na pwersahin ni Robin Padilla na pagsalitain ng Tagalog ang Koreanong ito?

I watched it and I think it's more of a rude form of expressing Pinoy pride and Filipino Nationalism. There was nothing hurled against his being Korean or his physical features or something. I think the actor was even apologetic, called him " anak " or son, and told him to " just think of it as your Filipino father teaching you " A racist person would not give him the decisive vote of "yes", no matter how good your talent is cause he already prejudged you but this was not the case here. I do agree that Mr. Padilla was very rude in the way he said " speak in Tagalog " and PGT management should polish him if he were to remain a judge. Angel was a real Angel and showed a typlcal Filipina with class and proper breeding Everything is my personal view and opinion and others are entitled to theirs

@Letranknight2015 I think she is only a girl friend lol it's not her obligation. I think another thing is people have different aptitude in learning anything, he said he studied in an International school here so there was very little chance to learn Pilipino.

I agree with you. Mr. Padilla did step out of the box and maybe he thought it benefitted him as showcasing a true Filipino but it went the other way around. The Korean spoke in English but I wonder too why his girlfriend did not teach him even some basic simple Filipino words.

Racism is everywhere. Did you see the latest about a H&M advert of a little boy wearing the hood with the words I'm the coolest monkey in the jungle?

He spoke English very well and not very little. In fact he didn't have a Korean accent at all. I watched it on youtube. He said he grew up in the Philippines but never learned our language. It was rude of Robin to do that to him but I think it's because hew as trying to be a patriot and he's kind of sensitive when foreigners stay in our country and doesn't even speak our language at all. I do understand his point but he didn't have to be rude. The reason why I understand him is when I stayed in Bangkok, foreigners there would learn their language, even tourists. If you don't speak Thai, the natives would just glare at you and are even rude. They seemed annoyed that you don't speak their language.

@ridingbet I never read the opinions of the netizens actually. The netizens can get overly crazy sometimes. I never read their comments and opinions. sometimes they talk too much and even much more rude and they sound uneducated by berating each other. Pitiful people.

Oh maybe I did not understand well is because I was in the kitchen that time when Robin seemed to be berating him. The opinions and views of the netizens were for and against the situation but racism was a clear definition of what Robin did to the Korean.

@toniganzon that is true. netizens, i think, want to be recognized that they make unnecessary comments on posts, and even igniting animosity between and among posters on FB. when i read these comments, i don't add mine, but laugh it out especially when these comments pertain to local artists. "gyera patani" na, not only the youngsters, even the more mature ones.

It was and the actor suddenly said he was just acting like the father of the contestant. But what he said earned the ire of other people and I think that is a point demerit to him.

He must be nuts joining a Filipino Contest and even speaks little English. Maybe he should have learned little tagalog and more english before joining the contest? As I recall Filipinos who joined foreign contest do speak english at least and then show our talent. What was he thinking? Being there for eight years and hasn't learn the language YET?!! Maybe that Filipina wife forced him to join to expose his magic skill? Does he think that this talent show is cheap that he can easily join in? I don't know what does guys did in the pre-election process before he could join in over here.

@CaptAlbertWhisker talk about double standard. I guess people had been misled somehow @ridingbet but him being in the Philippines for ten years he should have at least learned a bit.

Have you watched Asia's got talent? There are some contestants who hardly speak in English but only in their native tongue. I guess anybody can join as long as communication is understood.

Just think of this. The colour of our blood is red. There are primarily 4 or 5 blood groups in this world. Imagine, If a high cast person or a racist meet with an accident and requires urgent blood. Upon treatment would they still ask to the doctor or blood bank ,"what is the caste or race of this blood, which has injected in me?

i agree, but racism is already a fact here in the world, and one cannot get away with it especially if he is in the so-called inferior side of the world.

That's so awful that they would go to racism on a show like that. I'm proud of the actor Angel stepping up to do what's right. I don't think its up to the person experiencing the racism to be allowed or not allowed. Often times, in case of language barriers, they don't know they are the subject of racism / hate. Its up to ALL of us who see it, to step up and say "that ain't right, knock that old crap off and be civil!" if we watch it happening and do nothing, then we are just as guilty as participating as the person doing the crime!

@ridingbet so can racism. Overall, I wish people stopped being cruel to each other and focused on themselves doing something good/ positive. Even if we replaced 5 mean things with one good thing, how much better could the world be?

@misunderstood_zombie the judge should also have been given a translation of what the Korean said. it is really harsh to say the piece in front of others, that is why this Filipina actor Angel L broke the growing animosity between these 2 persons.

I have read about this news. I don't think Robin Padilla was rude and racist. He just found it strange that that Korean who is living for 10 years in the Philippines and calling it his home can't speak Tagalog. Besides that, he has a Filipina girlfriend. Is his girlfriend adjusting to him and learned Korean language for him? The actor was right, the contestant should have learned Tagalog as he is living in the Philippines. As a Filipina living here in Germany, I learned German. I had to in order to communicate with the people here. Filipinos who are working abroad are speaking the language of the countries they are working and that is good. I think the problem is, some young and old Filipinos are learning Korean language to impress the Korean in the Philippines. It should be the other way around. Korean and other foreigners should learn the Filipino language when they are working and living there. Well, it is just my opinion.
