Did my penis really teach me how to spell a kind of wine correctly?

I invited myself to dinner at a fellow MyLot member's house tonight. Because she was having salmon, I thought I'd bring a nice Ch*rdonnay, rather than my usual Cabernet Sauvignon. When I made the suggestion, in a comment, MyLot informed me that I had used a naughty word. I realized that you can't write "Ch*rdonnay" without writing "h*rdon." I also realized (after a Google search) that I had spelled Ch*rdonnay with only one "n." I am sure the MyLot elite are collectively clicking their tongues and rolling their eyes. The Horse can't spell. Well, if it pleases you, I prefer reds to whites these days. My further rebuttal would be that I rarely use the word "h*rdon" in my writing, and were I to do so, I would hyphenate it. But I don't know what's really correct. I invite @Maluse's comment on this important matter. Has MyLot made you feel "dirty" with its obscenity filter? Can you spell things like Pinot Noir (that sounds racy somehow) without blinking? To heck with it. I'm having Thai red curry and beer tonight.

I know that I cannot write correctly Chard_donnay because it is considered a bad word and @Asylum explained me very well why it is considered a bad word in English. When you go through different languages there are many words that are "dirty words", but those who do not know the language do not even know. An example "Mona Lisa" The painting is from an Italian and the correct spelling is Monna Lisa, Mona is the intimate part of the women, said in a very vulgar way. I am sure you did not know, but I feel sick every time I read "Mona Lisa".

@xFiacre It seems that most people do not know, what it is incredible is the fact that even journalists do not know that "Monna" was a courtesy title for the women and an abbreviation from "Madonna".

You make an excellent point about linguistics Anna. Many languages use the same script that English does, so there must be numerous expletives on Mylot which most members do not recognise.

Well your title certainly dragged me in. For a moment I thought you were going to tell me you'd happened upon some previously undiscovered bizarre Speak and Spell functionality. I always thought it was two words anyway!! I almost bought a T-shirt with the message "Particle physics gives me a hadron".

I had read about quarks in the past, but don't think I'd heard about hadrons until I read your comment. I'm glad you didn't get the t-shirt. The number of people who "got it" (now increased by one) would be exponentially less than the very few who get my "Hydrogen atom walks into a bar" joke...

I don't feel dirty on here at all. If I have something to say I say it. If it comes up as a naughty word I use my Thesaurus.

As English is not my native language, I had to learn (specially in the old mylot) what not to write. In my own language, I´m proud to know and use an ample vocabulary that includes "naughty" words. I´m a writer in Spanish and know that every word has a place.

@TheHorse It all depends on the characters, the style and a lot of other things. I can´t imagine Janes Austen´s heroines using bad language.

In most of my writing (all in English), I rarely use "bad" words, except when I'm quoting a character. It's more effective (to me) when it's implied by the narrator.

Heh. I don't mind common decency, though I don't always practice it. But when it's part of a word like "Ch*rdonnay" (I can spell it correctly now), it is a bit silly.

@kobesbuddy I assume they never told you why they deleted it. "Hop around on stage" does not sound racist. Britney Spears and other white performers also integrate music and dance (not always to my liking). Sometimes I don't get it.

I have hyphenated compound words on myLot when the filter said I was using adult language here. (I can't remember what I was spelling, but at least three times I've been stopped from posting something because myLot thought it was dirty! I've also deliberately misspelled a word or two when myLot didn't like them.) Honestly, pony, there is no telling what is going to teach you something new. Most of us are used to you telling.... uhm... odd stories in support of you learning something you shared with us. (That's actually fine. Your stories are usually funny, even when not very believable.) I normally don't have trouble spelling anything. (I might make a typo, but that is not misspelling something. That is a slip of the finger! )
