A bit too close for comfort

This afternoon we were trimming some branches down near the Music Shack where we'll be having our concert on Saturday evening. We had the car and trailer there and as Vince pruned back the branches I would load them into the trailer. We had nearly finished when we heard a loud groan then a crack. I looked up to see a huge eucalypt limb break off from the tree next to us and fall to the ground. I’ve taken the photo from the spot where I was standing when it fell.
It might sound funny but I felt privileged to see it fall. It was different to watching a tree fall that you have cut down. This just twisted or broke off about halfway up its height. When it hit the ground it sort of bounced before coming to rest. When I saw it coming down I thought it might land on the trailer but luckily it missed. So that was our excitement for the day.

@Theresaaiza Probably by about four metres - but we heard it snapping so we would have had time to take steps - long and often! We cleaned it all up today but I was keeping an eye on the next big branch in case it decided to fall too.

I was quite near. I took the photo from the exact spot where I was standing.

There is no way of knowing it's about to come down. And it wasn't the whole tree - just the main middle piece.

Wow..yes, good thing you weren't under it. One time we were camping in the West when heavy winds swept through..it may have been a tornado not really sure..but we did not feel safe in the tent. We went into the car..I told my husband move the car away from that tree. I also put a canvas bag of cameras over my head like a hard hat. Anyway..we were safe in the car..but our air mattress blew out of the tent and was found on the other side of the campground. In that same storm system in another state, some campers were killed by a tree falling on their tent. It pays to be proactive!

Certainly quite a few have been killed in tents when trees have fallen on them. And yet it's always nice to camp under a tree.

What would you have called that photo if it fell on someone's head? (lol)

@nitirrbb7 We cleaned it all up this afternoon but I was keeping a close eye on the next big branch in case it decided to break off too.

@JudyEv Dedicated to our best friends Judy and Vince who currently are in state due to a limb on their heads while preparing for this concert
Hope they make it before the concert ends

@JudyEv I'm so glad you weren't hurt-- I would probably like to see it fall too.

It is good that falling eucalypt tree did not harm you.

We were very close. Close to us, the car and the trailer. Luckily it missed us all.
