Thoughts as we course through another year

The dust and smoke have settled down now from the celebrations of a new year. It is normal a new year brings hopes and dreams apart from resolutions. For me it is more of Mindful Living on an ongoing basis, pausing, pondering and making course corrections to adjust to the realities of the day without overlooking the basics. Living the moments and making sense of our role in them and also how to stay positive. We want to be independent and at the same time we need others in our lives too, a balancing act tough most times. We want a year that is better than the previous. But who makes it happen? It is us at the end of the day. If we do not play our role with an awareness of what is needed for a better future then how can it happen? We are human and self-righteous, we think we are doing what we should and it is up to others to change. We are in this together. It takes all to make a world. We all have roles to play and when more the darkness the light we shine is more powerful. I remind myself of Edmund Burke’s words “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”. Then again, we have to move to a higher level of consciousness. Not that we are not aware of it but we ignore it and pay the price. The all-pervasive love behind creation does not percolate to our daily lives. When we live by love, in thoughts and deeds, things will change; the first step for that will be to eschew the opposite, hatred and selfish pursuits. Without us doing what is right we do not deserve anything better. After all, we reap what we sow; New Year is a good time to reflect on what is needed to make the change happen. What are your thoughts on how to make our world a better place? Image: Our planet from Wikimedia Images

Edmund Bourke's quote is very true. We need to stand up for what is right.

We can only do what we can, but if everyone should do something the world would be better. People should respect more the others, be less selfish, stop to pollute and make their best to keep our earth clean. There are many easy things we can do every day.

@ladyduck even if each of us do a few things right- even for 200 days a year, the world will be a much better place to live !

In some countries people get divided on petty issues with the result 99% suffer. That is not democracy in action, it is more of tyranny perpetrated by the 1%. The basic issue for the majority is rule of law and that should be above politics. Now the vital issues remain unresolved amid the sound and fury ending up in more misery - siva

I start with myself in doing thing rightly, so the world would be a better place to live. We segregate our garbage so when the garbage truck comes to get them, it is properly segregated. I don't burn the leaves anymore, we just group it at one corner and let it decay naturally so the soil can be fertilized by it.

@Shiva49 yes each of us can contribute as per our resources and time. I used some vegetable waste to prepare a bit of compost last year.

Yes, awareness is clearly reflected in your actions. Each can do but little, but if each does that little, all will be done - siva

Do our part to contribute to the environment and community, that's what I think. And we don't really have to wait for every new year to do that, too.

Change happens all the time and we need to adapt to survive and find meaning. New year can be one to reflect and ponder but we need not wait for the right time. If we have good intentions anytime is a good time to live an uplifting life. Constant appraisal, without being hard on ourselves, should serve us well - siva

We are hearing Edmund Burke’s words often now about The American President who only thinks of himself. Its very strange to see such a person in the White house. Time will tell if enough will be done.

Under the smokescreen of our fear lives the beautiful scenery of love
How can we better interconnect with others, and play our true role at the same time? I can't seem to do that. I usually play down being myself to better interconnect with others, but firstly with my wife, as she is the main one that I need to smoothly live with. The secret of all interconectiveness, is not love, as you might think, because love is a given, always really there. No, it is your ability to overcome the negativity in you that restricts you from loving, through fear of rejection by others. We need to love through fear, not be restricted through our fear. As we move into a new year, we need to play our own role more strongly without fear, or compromise, whilst retaining the basic loving interconnection to others that is innate within us too, when we allow it to be so, and believe and accept this idea as being true. @Shiva49 That's well said, siva. Love reaches into the world from God, and it acts to grow and to stretch each person and each part of creation allowing it to be what God intended of it to be. We need to allow this for ourselves and for others, as when we block love, we effectively cut ourselves off from ourselves, God, and all others too. We are being false rather than real to all of these areas of our life then instead.

@innertalks When we live inspired by god's love then anxiety and stress will find no place in us. Then the bonding with others is oiled by love and nothing else matters. We need to break free unshackled from self-imposed restraints. That way we think of others as part of us, not in competition with us, just sharing a journey guided by almighty - siva

I feel we should feel comfortable in the all pervasive love that is in creation and certainly not act as a wet blanket. The main issue standing in our way is the anti-love that is projected or love on a selective and selfish basis with ulterior motive even; love used as an entrapment for enslaving others. Real love is in our living the moments in tune with the diversity so that those with eyes and ears get uplifted. We need our immediate family, living with them as who we really are, but at the same accepting them for who they are should smoothen the process of coexistence. If our ways diverge, then part with love and humility. No hard feelings and, in fact, happy that both are free to pursue the paths than restricting each other for reasons other than love. Ultimately, our living by love make us live and love without borders. We are set free and self does not matter then, we are a free soul, liberated, with existence here being just an extension and part of who we really are, unhinged and liberated - siva

Every country can become self sufficient in the basics - water, energy, food but one has to work in unity with the common goal. We should take it as a challenge but now we are more into blame games at every level starting from family to country - siva

Yes, we need coordinated and inclusive action to save our only planet that is a present from our creator. " We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children". I think the origin of this quote is not certain but it puts our lives in the right perspective. Life is a gift from our creator and how we live it shows how grateful we are to him. "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools" Martin Luther King, Jr said so eloquently - siva

When we lead lives worthy of emulation others notice and tend to fall in line. People have told me they can't be like me; then I tell them, I am already taken be yourself! Yes, do the best we can and then leave the rest for others to play their part - siva

"the more things change, the more they stay the same,"~Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr We like to believe we can change the course of our life but in most cases our lives are molded by outside forces. Best to accept the things and people that we are bounded by fate. There would be less disappointment.

I agree, year round, we conscios about avoiding negative feelings. Along with hatred and selfishness, we need to avoid greed, self pity, lust to large extents, and so on.
