: Calcium is a mineral that maintains your strong ,healthy bones. Ninety-nine percent of the body's calcium is stored in your bones and teeth. Your body removes small amounts of calcium and replaces it with new calcium. So you need to eat or drink foods that have calcium in them. If your body removes more calcium from your bones than it replaces than your bones will become weaker and might break easy. You need to eat a diet of dairy, nuts, leafy greens and fish to get enough calcium in your diet.

Aged cheese and leafy greens are the best, but also sardines contain a lot of calcium.

The naturopathic people have a different opinion about how calcium actually acts in our body and what the proper source of calcium should be. Not sure what it is but thought I have read it somewhere. One important thing to remember as well, is that it is important to supplement with Vit D alongside calcium tablets to help in absorption. That is according to Medical textbooks this time.

I do worry sometimes if I'm getting enough. I know women need it, especially the older we get.

I get mine usually from milk, yogurt and cheese. I know some people also have to take calcium supplements, but I don't.

Calcium is important but for those thinking about using a calcium supplement, you should have your calcium levels checked first. Hypercalcemia can cause kidney stones, confusion, weakness, sleepiness, nausea and lack of appetite.
