Bears almost ready for...

I've been mentioning about doing a line of bears for sale where all the proceeds from the sales will go to the various animal shelters and rescue groups in my area. I came up with the name "Phoenix Critters" because of the mohair fur/fabric that Bill's daughter found in the burned out rubble of my home and studio. It was a miracle that the mohair survived. I mentioned the project to a bear artist friend of mine and she donated fur and supplies to help with the project. It's also to memorialize the dog and cats I lost in the fire. Here is a picture of the first bears for the project. They'll go on sale as soon as I receive the hang tags I ordered for them.

@BearArtistLady You are right, if people should skip 1 Starbucks coffee a week and give to the shelters this would help a lot of animals and it would change nothing to their finances.

I wish more people would give just a few dollars! If everyone could give even a dollar(those who could honestly afford it rather than squandering their money) the shelters could help so many animals!

Anything for the animals! They need us so much! One day I hope to post a picture of the "moochers" that come by for corn and bread. I get kidded at Wal Mart about all the bread and bags of corn I buy for my deer. I now have the neighbors feeding them too!

That is such a kind act. I hope your fundraiser will be a success. Phoenix Critter sounds really cool, too.

Thank you! There is another reason for the name, but I don't want to go back to the unhappiness.

These bears are wonderful! Wow, just how did the mohair survive that fire? It's all for a great cause - I hope your line of bears does very well!

Ahhh, I wondered where you were my friend. I found you live not too far from me....in a different fire area. I think that there was a LOT of providence protecting the mohair. Some of the edges were burned but other wise the fur was in good shape except for the smoke smell. I haven't started working on that mohair yet as it is a very special fur that will have many tears shed while I am working on it. It will be the true memorial for C.D., Khuay, Charlie Tuna,Shadow Dancer,Pickles,Sweetie,Smudge,Einstein, Lucky, and Bear. To say it'll be hard is like saying a slab of cement is a feather bed. I am praying they do well too if for nothing more than the memory of some very special animals. I'll post pictures of the bears and critters from the mohair. Oh, BTW, arch for a pm

@BearArtistLady The Ventura fire area was north of us - but not close (although Hubby works just south of there). We are actually closer to that Skirball fire . . . but we are in the middle of the Valley (San Fernando Valley), so there was no actual fire threat to us except for bad air quality that blew this way. Oh my, I had not realized you had so many losses . It's beautiful what you are doing .
