Mayon Volcano Is Erupting!

Yes, Mayon Volcano of our Albay Province here in the Philippines, which I have posted beautiful pictures of, has erupted ashes since Saturday and last night has been seen spewing lavas too. I have attached pictures from my friends, taken yesterday. The people near the foot of it has been evacuated. There are certain towns really affected by the ashfalls. As for my family, relatives, and friends, we are far from the danger zone. People are praying that it will just be like this – mild eruption. A mild eruption every other 8 years or less is necessary for it not to have a major eruption, they say. But I pray that this eruption will not be for long because a lot of poor people near the danger zone are displaced and are worrying for their houses, animals, and farms.

Oh wow, glad to know you're far from the danger zone. I hope the residents in the area will be safe and the eruption wouldn't cause a lot of damage.

The residents a the area new the danger zones were evacuated. Some don't want to so they were forcibly evacuated. It's for their own good an safety. We are hoping it will be just like this mild.

@thelme55 Today she is calm. Though, there are smoke coming out from her crater. Let's see tonight if there will still be lavas flowing down. We can see them at night, but not when it's daylight.

Mayon has been constanrly erupting since I was a kid. Right, although bad, spaced minor eruptions is better than one big major eruption like Pinatubo, hope her perfect cone is not damaged

That Is true. From the view deck of the mall we are managing, it is still a perfect cone. But when we went to another town near my hometown, it is not anymore especially at slope by the town where the lava flows down.

Let's hope it doesn't turn like the Mt. Pinatubo because that ash once it explodes could reach miles. I remember that flood of cement was able to reach our house over here in Calabarzon. I got to see the Mayon Volcano once back in 2013.

Yes, that is true. Ashes can really be a big mess especially when it rains it turns into mud. It can also trouble those people with ashtma and those little children. Everyone should be in mask to avoid inhaling it.

Yes, that's what we are praying for also. As early as when the ashfall began, the people were evacuated because it can really harm the respiratory system especially those with asthma.

It is good that you are away from the danger. The people nearby must be very worried. Farmers would hate having to leave their animals behind.

Thankfully we really are. We don't want to live in a place where we will always be worried that Mayon will suddenly erupt. Yes, it's the farmers that are hard headed in evacuating. They are worried indeed for their plants and animals.

Yes, thank you. The ashes didn't reach Legazpi where we work nor Daraga where we live. It reached the next town though, Camalig and the next town to that. They are near Mayon. People there are in mask.

I have been dreaming to see Mt Mayon one day, to finally see in person something I only see in postcards. Hope this volcanic activity won't last for too long so people can resume their normal lives. But of course, most of all, we pray for their safety.

@SIMPLYD Do you know how long the evacuation is for? Does one have to go through Manila to get to Albay? Cause that's one of the main reasons I prefer not to visit places in Luzon because Manila is always the point of origin. The traffic is just too much.

@Theresaaiza No, it can't be determined. Because as long as Mayon volcano is still erupting like that, the people will be made to stay at the evacuation center, by the government. I think you can come from other places without passing by Manila. There are direct flights to Legazpi.

Yes, when you visit the Philippines, you should really come to Albay so you can have a photo with Mayon as the background and see it for real. I swear you will be awed by its beauty. We can only pray now for the safety of everyone especially those evacuated residents at the foot of Mayon volcano. At least, they were evacuated before it spewed of lavas.

The magnificent and lofty Mayon Volcano looked so becauful before eruption ,however it now gets "angry" and shows it "teeth".My thought goes out to those close to the danger zone too.

Indeed. And despite that, there are people who would really try to still live near the restricted area. Thankfully, everyone there was evacuated before Mayon Volcano erupted.

It is possible that the farmers may lose some of their crops from the ash and lava, but in the long-term, all that lava and ash will provide nutrients and fertile soil for the farmers to grow new crops. So, the eruption can be looked at as a blessing in disguise. I just hope that everyone stays safe and that nobody gets hurt or killed.

Until now, the volcano would erupt mildly and would emit ashes also. That is why some are still at the evacuation centers. They are all raring to go home already because their way of living is farming and the livestock there. It rains every now and then so it is nice because it washes the ashes on the trees and plants.

Yes, thank you. And that one is so unexpected since it has been dormant for decades. So you see, a volcano has to erpt every now and then so it won't gather too much heat inside and just explode so unexpectedly.
