Turning into your parent

Don't get me wrong, I love my parents, they're my world. BUT, did they have certain quirky or annoying personalities that you find you are mirroring as you get older? I remember my mom being very fond of waking up late, too lazy to begin her day, hating work, loving a sedentary lifestyle, making excuses for putting things off, and constantly struggling with weight issues. Positively, she was a people person. My dad was the active, athletic, working type but he was socially withdrawn, and a huge clutter bug. Now I am in my 30s and I have my mom's lazy, procrastinating side and my dad's socially withdrawn side. What am I gonna do now? Did you ever find your parents funny in a good weird way? Any personality you took after?

I had my mother's way of buying two or 3 of one thing like the comb. I also had lots of combs and had them in each bag, as well as folded toilet paper too. I got my father's strong personality.

Nothing wrong with collecting combs, hun. Some parents collect junk Looks like you got the positives from both sides.

I have, without doubt, turned into my father. I often find myself doing or saying something then stopping myself and thinking "that really used to bug me when my Dad did it and i promised I'd never do that". Of course i also inherited his striking good looks Just goes to show there is no stopping nature!!

@Theresaaiza I think that must have skipped a generation. Both of my parents were always miserable buggers!!

No my mom is not lazy. She is works hard and I get that trait. My father is also socially withdrawn and awkward and I get that trait. What do you mean by huge clutter bag?

A clutter bug just means "messy" or "disorganized". In our language, "burara".

It's sad that I am getting into my Dad's side of personality now a days. But they were moments were I was a social person a bit like my mom. They are your parents and you attain their personality but it's your choice if you want to change. I admit I struggle lately because of fear and feeling overwhelmed.

Maybe adulthood is just putting too much pressure on us. To fit into the norms of society. Where, you have to be sociable, and charismatic, and driven, and successful. But you have the genes of someone who is an introvert and it creates an internal emotional conflict. Just my theory.

You are hilarious!!! We all have our own traits and some from our parents. I find myself repeating their words and phrases. Some are pretty funny!

You don't need to copy their personality and there's no need to be bothered by it. As long as you think you're doing the right thing and not hurting other people. Everyone should have their own identity. Your friends will love or like you for that.

My mother is turning younger. At least that's what she thinks. She want to get rid of me and marry someone. But the problem she hasn't find anyone she likes yet. Anyway men at this age wouldn't marry on our island they look for fun purpose only.
