Continuing from yesterday’s post http://www.mylot.com/post/3145863/repurposing-stuff-part-i
It’s now 10 years later, and we moved house again. We didn’t plan to take the boards with us as our new stairs are very nice and a totally different shape, but the new owners didn’t want them and thought we might like to keep our fun memories. So they have been in the garage for the past year.
During that time I have been working my way through and sorting things from my parents’ house. One of those things was a bureau which my Dad had made for his mother back in the 1950s or 60s. When she died he kept it but didn’t have room in the house, so it has been in a shed for about 30 years, and the bottoms of the two drawers (which were hardboard) were eaten away by woodworm.
Of course I would like to keep the bureau as a memory of him, and anyway it’s a good solid piece of oak furniture and I could use it. So I got rid of the old worm-eaten board and looked for a replacement - and there in the garage were our painted boards, just the thing.
I cut out two pieces, sanded the edges, slid them into place and tacked them along the backs. Ta-da! Perfect. I was pleased and Big One was delighted to see our art given a new lease of life. Now we have a piece of furniture which combines memories from three generations!

@WorDazza The flaw in the business plan is that the only people who would want to repair old drawers, rather than just chuck them out and buy new ones, are people like me - and we are too careful with our money to pay anyone else to do such things!
