There is a measles alert out?

When was the last time you had to be concerned about measles? Its a very deadly disease that has a vaccination kids can get. So its really not a worry anymore is it? or is it? Now a days people are going without vaccinations for their children. Its all good and well, but apparently there was a confirmed passenger who used flight services and people who were exposed to it could be at risk with systems that could occur as late as Jan 31 (date from link below). Scary? prayers for the person with it and those that all came in contact.
Illinois health officials warn public after passenger infected with the measles visited O'Hare.

I think people forget just how dangerous these diseases can be. Because of the immunisation programme some diseases are rarely seen and young mothers don't bother about vaccination. It's a very risky decision they take not to have their children innoculated.

@Daelii Exactly. We had a guy here at one of our concerts (one of the performers) and he had a sore throat. Turns out he actually had diphtheria. Luckily he was put on antibiotics and got over it but these diseases are still around and are just as fatal as they ever were.

so true. I know in my last pregnancy online support group many thought they were old diseases that only existed around their great grand parents time. they dont understand why its not rampant now (because of vaccinations).

When I was 6 thru 8 years old I got all those childhood diseases which built up my immunity so now I don't have to worry.

@Daelii .......And with heavy patients turn out at the clinics I can see where they might make the mistaken diagnosis.

it is! scary is that some of the symptoms for measles starts off flu like. so if someone did catch it they could accidentally misdiagnose it at first

It is a very real worry because you have idiot parents who don't vaccinate their children.

@Daelii Herd immunity is important. I'm sorry your daughter had a bad reaction but I'm glad that you didn't refuse them.

its also a big concern for parents whose kids are to young for vaccinations or their kids really cant have them. My 5 year old is allergic to the vaccinations - so all of hers were delayed/ spaced out. so instead of some of the 3 in ones, they did one vaccine at a time with time between to reincorporate. the last round of vaccines she got, she had an in office health reaction,. seconds after getting it, her body went red / skin rash and she got an extreme high fever. she needed extra care by dr to monitor her until it all got back under control

If we are not consistent with prevention we will see epidemics again and deaths.

yeah, but its now trendy to not vac a kid! Got to be a "cool parent" so the kid can grow up and eat tide pods. a recent deadly "teen challenge" going around.

This isn’t good. I hope the parents will soon learn that vaccines are more helpful then hurtful
