When I lost my left leg in 2008 the last thing on my mind was Halloween or being involved with anything to do with the holiday. The next year I was asked if I would be interested in working at a local haunted house as a torture victim; needless to say it ended up being very therapeutic for me and led to being asked if I would consider doing the same thing for a movie. Unfortunately the funding on the shoot ran out and the production was put on hiatus. In any even, I got addicted to 'the scare' and have been active in the scene. I saw Haunters on Netflix I wasn't sure if it was about the behind the scenes happenings on horror movie sets or if it was a documentary. Haunters is, simply, some of the best footage from small-to-medium haunted houses. Sorry if that seems like a bit of a let down but if you love gore, being scared / shocked, horror movies and / or the theatrics of haunted houses then this is more than worth checking out. Do some of the creators go too far with the sets, monsters and gore? That really depends on your tolerance level for the darker side of things. You can see how some people would be peeing their pants if they were in the situation of some of the patrons but I didn't see anyone outright complaining once they were through the exit. For me, anything that's realistic – like a snake coming up the toilet or someone stalking you in your own home – that's what works my last nerve and turns me into a complete baby. You get to see the construction aspect as well as the amount of time that people put into these indy productions. For me, one of the best parts of Haunters is the footage of people losing their grip when they are inside the event. It reminds me of “The Houses That October Built” because of the content. If you are sensitive to gore, horror characters, blood and being frozen with fear then avoid this but if you love the macabre and things that go bump in the night then check out Netflix for this.
