Good morning.Lovely day still cool. How many remember the days of fall out shelters With the threat from Korea ready to unload one of them in the U.S.mainland. I remember this very well.People was building fall out in the yard . At the time it was pretty scary.I remember the Air Raid signals, the black out we had every night etc. air raid siren etc. anyone recall this? This was back in the early forties. With the second World War 11 going on. The photo is from Amazon.

We all have a fall out shelter in the basement of our houses here in Switzerland. We have one in our home.

Our friends have a shelter but it is a fire shelter designed to protect them if they ever have a bushfire.

My uncle built one under his home in Canada, now it is a basement storage area lol As kids we had drills about where to hide just in case.

That was before my time, but we've always had rooms within rooms in all our basements. I doubt that they'd help in case of a nuclear attack.

I am fortunate to have not been alive at that time so I never had to experience that. Scary how things are now between countries though!

The high school that my son and daughter currently attend, which seems like it was built back in the Stone Age, still has fallout shelter signs mounted around the school. Most are old, faded and rusted, but they're still there. I remember my daughter asking me about those signs when she first started attending high school. For a while, it looked like we would never have a need for them, but I guess that's all changing now, and we may return to the days of fear over a nuclear war.

It was more gov't propaganda and false hope but those bomb shelters would not have made any difference if a nuclear event occurred. World War II just ended and it was the start of the "cold war" between the former USSR and the US

We have shelters here in Israel or people have safe room in their homes where they go when the siren goes off.
