Mind over matter doesn't change what really matters

The moon cannot move the boat, or can it?

I was just reading on the internet, where a guy claimed that our mind can control everything else in our life, and that it has great power to overcome, and to change all adversity, in our lives. This guy made the seemingly exaggerated claim that if we are poisoned either by a snake, or some other type of a poison, that these things do not need to affect us. "There are people who suffer deadly bites from venomous snakes or ingest poisoned food into their bodies, but no harm comes to them," he said. He then said that this was because, "the effect of poison upon your body depends on your belief in it. If you believe in death or ill effect, then you will experience it. If you believe in none of these, they won’t happen." He then said that we can use the power of our subconscious mind to overrule these things, by our instructing it to do so. Well, that's a rather big claim, I thought to myself. Is there any truth to what he is saying here, or not then? I feel more that our mind does not really control anything of itself, being more just an instrument of our soul, which controls all in its way, but it does hand over some of this control to the functioning parts of its outer appendages, our body, brain, and mind. If we ingest a poison then, our body will react to it like anything else that is physical will do so. The same if it is an acid, it will burn us. Our mind thinks it can control this, but it cannot. It can only blind you to some of the effects by masking or cutting you off from the pain of it all, desensitising you, in other words. If your soul is sending you this to get some learning experience through to you, your mind cannot prevent this in the long run, just watch it happening, that's all. What do you think about "mind power"? Photo Credit: The photo used here has been freely accessed from the free media site: pixabay.com. The moon cannot move the boat, or can it?

That man is foolish. If you drink Drain-O, it's gonna kill you, no matter what your mind thinks.

Yes, there was a martial artist here in Australia many years ago who claimed that he had this great mind power over animals. He sneaked into a tiger's pen somehow, at the Perth Zoo, as there was not so much security in those days, as in these days. He was killed. On the other hand though, with faith in God, a greater power than just ourselves, I do believe that some miracles are possible. It is not us doing it though, it is God. What is the difference between mind power and faith then? I think that when you have great faith, you can achieve great things through God who strengthens you, but you are not doing this yourself, and nor should you do it just to test God. These things must only be done as necessary, as when God instructs, or inspires, us to do so himself.

@innertalks It happened here in Singapore too when one jumped in and paid the penalty soon afterwards. I do not recall what prompted him to do so. In China one lady had an argument with her mum and got out of the car in a tiger enclosure. Her mum tried to save her but got killed in the bargain! In India one jumped in and soon realised the danger but the tiger will have none of his pleadings - siva

@Shiva49 Yes, and some so-called tame wild animals, having "behaved" for many years, can suddenly turn wild and kill their trainer, like which has happened to some circus performers over the years.

Well it cant hurt to think positive however to think that you can just take poison but think to yourself it wont affect you .. well I'm betting it would.

Yes, that's more than being just positive, it's bordering on the delusional I suspect.

Yesterday I saw an experiment video. A drop of viper poison put in to a glass of human blood and it suddenly become a big size piece like a bread. I haven't seen any mind effect there.

@innertalks Yes . May be sense of mind helps to slow the spreading time.

Yes, I have seen something similar a while ago too. Imagine what it would do inside the human body then. Yes, a poison is a poison and no amount of mind-power can change that I suspect.

@shshiju I know that if we quieten our body, by not moving it much, it slows down the passage of the poison through the bloodstream, so if we quieten our mind, and do not escalate our anxiety, maybe that might help slow the spreading time too, as you suggested.
