Decided I had better see a doc today

Since this "upper respiratory infection" thing hinted on Saturday and started on Sunday, then developed in to a deep cough last night, I decided that a doc visit was a good idea. Hospitals and doctor's offices are swamped with flu patients all over the west coast. A receptionist at my doc's clinic got a cancellation with another doctor just as I called. My doc was swamped, so I went to see the new one. As I suspected, my lungs are in good shape. It is a virus that will run its course and I will continue to be miserable and stay in the house for a few more days. The ten dollar co-pay was worth it to make sure I was not developing pneumonia. It's a good thing I had nothing really planned this week.

Is the world headed for another flu epedemic? Everybody seems to be sick around the world, lots of flu cases here too, same in other Asian countries.

It does sound pretty ominous with so much flu everywhere.

It seems that those are the symptoms of the flu of this year, the vaccine revealed not to be effective. I am avoiding crowded stores and even the doctor office, until now I feel well.

@JamesHxstatic I am glad they ask the patients to wear a disposable mask where you go. In the hospital and at Doctors cabinets we also have to wear disposable masks, in the store people do not care if they are sick, they go there shopping and contaminate all the others.

I was in and out of there so fast. I had a magazine, they asked me to wear a disposable mask. I sat down and was called in within three minutes.

@LadyDuck It was crazy seeing so many people out in the stores with either sick children or themselves. Some people have no common sense.

@jameshxstatic All of Ireland seems to have succumbed to the flu. All except me. I never get it in spite of spending so much time around sick people in and out of hospital. Occupational immunity it seems I have.

Sorry your cold has developed into something worse. Vince had pneumonia a couple of times then got immunised against it. Perhaps it might be worth considering.

@JudyEv I read that the shot protects against 13 most common strains, but when I develop a deep cough, I still get concerned.

@JamesHxstatic So surely if you've had the inoculation you wouldn't be expecting pneumonia? Is the vaccination sometimes not effective?

You were lucky. I was sick in New Jersey visiting my children for the holidays and ended up sick. I felt awful but tried to keep going as I knew we were headed back to Florida soon. I never got better up there and we did make the trip home in the car plus there was a blizzard in the northeast then. We stayed an extra week than planned and still traveled being sick. We stopped overnight in North Carolina and continued on the road the next day. I never went to the doctors when I got home as I figured I would get rid of it on my own. I had it for weeks. I finally went to the doctors and it was packed and she gave me meds and eventually I got better but not 100%. I was weak for another month. I am finally better but never got to my old self yet. I am told older people take longer to recover.

indeed, we should seek consultation once the cough continues to be productive even if we think this is just an allergic rhinitis. the cough that i had is already gone when i took some decongestants.
