Counting Down

My personal countdown is at 16 days. My husbands countdown is a bit higher....his stands at 116 days. In just over two weeks, I will be loading the van and driving to our new home. Each morning when I awaken, I check the 14 day forecast (I'm not sure why? Yesterday's forecast certainly wasn't correct!) to see what the weather trends I might experience enroute. The drive will be long....1700 kilometres. (1055 miles). Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can make the trip in two stages. An impending winter storm could delay our departure or interrupt the long drive. My youngest daughter will be accompanying me (shared driving) and in gratitude I'm paying for her flight home a few days later. Mentally I have packed and repacked the van. In two weeks we will find out what will actually fit in the space available, while leaving me clear sight lines. (I want to be able to see clearly when I'm driving....behind...beside and of course...in front) Have you ever counted down to an exciting change in your life?

Yep, but that was 21 years ago when I bought this land and had to wait for the septic, water line and electric pole to be set up so I could put my mobile home here. The biggest problem I had was that I worked and couldn't get time off to attend to business but eventually it all worked out. The hardest part was waiting to get enough money to have the fence put around my land so the pups could run freely.

Yes, @Morleyhunt mostly it was worthwhile but I still wish I could have afforded a place in a different region of this county.

I'm glad to hear that your daughter is going out with you. I was worried as that is such a long drive for anyone to make alone. I'm sure that you'll have fun together along the way. A year ago we had accepted an offer on our home and my husband had begun a new job in another city and I stayed back to pack up the house. He came home on the weekends and was always amazed by the progress that I had made in putting a dent into the packing. We counted down the weeks and then the days. Down-sizing is such an exciting time in our lives.

@Morleyhunt I donated loads of stuff also, everything from our Christmas tree down to kitchen glasses. Its amazing how we accumulate "stuff" that we really do not need and certainly don't want to pack or move. We rented a pod and had it delivered to our driveway for a couple of weeks so that my husband and son could load the heavy furniture and his tools into it. It met us at our new location and my husband and I had movers come to haul the heavy stuff into the house for us. We did the light stuff, we only employed them for a couple of hours. That last week at home we really "cleaned house" so to speak. We took our headboard, mattress and box springs to the dump. They were not worth moving. And the last of the items we had listed on kijiji were picked up. We slept on the floor on an air mattress for that last week and sat on folding lawnchairs. It was humble, but it was so worth it.

I loaded three bags for donation into the van this morning! Progress! Later today a legitimate moving company is coming to provide an estimate on what it will cost to have someone else do the heavy work.

I don't think it will be warmer. The weather at our new home is comparable to what we experience here.

We bought a house. I will be there for almost two months...then returning to our current home to pack up everything and then when hubby retires (116 days) we will travel out together, but apart. (2 vehicles).

@Morleyhunt I do love New Brunswick we have visited a couple of times. I am sure you will be very happy in your retirement there. I knew you were moving but I had missed that it was so far away.

It seems we measure our lives with long and short count downs. I have had a few. I am counting to the end of the year now. I am counting to be old enough for medicare as well. Sooner than that I am counting down to a trip to visit our daughter, around six hundred miles away. Our hearts keep beating, our minds keep on making lists, etc. and we keep on counting down. Or looking forward.

Always list. Mental lists and then the many that I write down. Goals...deadlines...

Yes, I have done it a few times. Like when I got married, or pregnant with my kids. Those are the ones that come to mind, but I'm sure there are a lot more. And I'm sure there might be others in my life in the future too.

I've learnt that US Americans love moving and do it quite often. Is it the same with Canadians? Most Germans like to stay put.

That is my biggest worry at the moment. I have no control..so I'm leaving it in Gods hands. If the weatherman says wait a day...I will.

when i am in my duty, i usually count how many hours are i and my students stand while attending to the patients, and usually, we must have our dinner at 6:15PM so they and i can sit down.

I would do that when it was very busy at work. One time...I had customers until an hour after the store closed. I told hubby...we are going out for dinner.

My biggest change was moving from New York to Pennsylvania almost 8 years ago. It was a bit scary to relocate in a place I wasn't familiar with but it turned out to be the best decision. I'm hoping you are happy with your new place and it's nice that your daughter will share the driving and that you won't be making that long trip by yourself.

It is a blessing to have her join me for the long drive out. Coming back by myself won't be as bad. By the end of March winter should be mostly behind us.
