Do cats need bath?

I have two cats in home. One's name is Duchess (female) and the other one is Amadeus (male). I even sometime give them bath but it's a big challenge for me. And of course, they do not like this. However, I've always seen them licking their body tip to toe most of the time - at least once a day. I think this is the process of cleaning themselves and they don't need bath. That's why they don't want us to give them bath because they clean themselves.

We don't give bath to our cats but it's a good idea to keep them neat and fresh

@JolietJake Why? They have those fleas to be put away right?

@m_audrey6788 That is why they make flea collars. Scar has never had a bath and he is roughly 4 months shy of being 3 years old.

I had a cat before Sophie and never gave her a bath and now I have Sophie and do not give her a bath either. I doubt if she would let me. She loves to go in the sink and link the water that links.

The cat you have now is also 'Sophie'? Did you give her the same name as the earlier one?

@tmosby Ted Mosby, I did not give my cat before Sophie her name. The cat before Sophie was called Mitzi.

Cats are very meticulous. We don't bathe them, but we brush them and wipe them down with organic baby wipes. That they love. We did have a Persian cat who required a bath every once in a while.

Ok. They are indeed very meticulous. Yesterday, I was going out and backside of my track was full of cat fur. I realized when I was inside the lift. With a smile on my face, I went out just like that. (I have a roller to clean my clothes but I forgot yesterday )

Yes, they do keep themselves very neat and clean. And yes, Amadeus is so adorable. He is sleeping under a cozy shawl right now. He loves sleeping. And this morning, he was trying to catch his own tail and he might got tired. He is in deep sleep now.

MY cats were not allowed outdoors and I still bathed them. I don't think anything should be on furniture that can't be washed.

I think that cats do a really good job of keeping themselves clean, so I wouldn't think a bath is necessary.

the only time i give my cats a bath is either if they got something on their fur,or they're old and need a little help. otherwise,it's usually best left to them..

Yes, it's best to leave them as they are unless they got something on their fur.

Amadeus and Duchess are beautiful. Cats clean themselves quite well, so don't really need to be bathed unless for a bit of extra grooming. :-)

Yes they are. They love tuna I give them twice a day as special food apart from their regular food. And they know the exact time of have tuna and they start reminding me that it's their time. They are adorable though. I love both of them.

A healthy cat will bathe itself as you describe. Some people give baths to try to kill fleas or help allergic skin. MOST cats do not like water, but there are one or two breeds that do. I had a cat that liked water.

I never bathe my cats. Ever since I had cats, until now and I never bathe any of them. Except for one instance when my pet escaped outdoors and went home all black covered in mud, grime or something like she's fallen on some sort of canal. That's the only time I remembered that I bathed and cleaned my cat thoroughly. My cat is a good groomer. Her skills is enough to keep her short coat and skin clean and healthy hehe Actually most if not all cats are good groomers.

The only real reason to give a cat a bath is if it is covered in something like oil that would harm it. Cats are normally fastidious creatures and can bathe themselves just fine.
