I am always thrilled to come across woodland deer and deer in public parks. Sometimes they can be seen in the distance but getting close enough to get photographs is tricky as they retreat and avoid contact. I remember a school trip to Tatton Park in Cheshire ended when our accompanying teacher almost got arrested. He found two matching shed deer antlers and decided they would look nice on the wall in his school office. He carried them round quite openly and freely through the remaining trip time, but as we were leaving, park officials demanded that he come to their office. He was grilled for thirty minutes to make sure he hadn’t killed the deer to take the antlers as if he was a poacher and then had to surrender the antlers as they were designated a park property and told that it would amount to theft if he tried to take them. They finally let him go, antler’s confiscated. The photo is of a White deer I saw in Dunham Massey Park, near Altrincham, Cheshire, England. The deer here are not shy at all, and not only wander around the crowd, hoping for food (despite notices telling people not to feed them), they often walk up and nudge or shove you if they think you haven’t given them your attention. They are quite beautiful creatures. Arthur Chappell

This is a beautiful picture Arthur, you were lucky to see a white deer, I do not believe there are many.

Gorgeous picture! Over here in state/ nature parks its against the law to leave anything behind that wasn't already there or to take anything.

@Daelii it is a good policy as long as they make sure everyone knows the rules on arriving - not leaving your own things behind should be self explanatory

I never saw a deer that close. I hope their nudging doesn’t turn violent.

What a lovely animal! I don't mind seeing antlers on walls but I'm not so keen on stuffed animal heads.

Are they naturally a white breed or was this an albino?
