Waiting for My Next Adventure

Winston Salem, North Carolina
January 22, 2018 4:55pm CST
After last Thursday’s mishap, I decided to stay inside and wait for the snow to disappear before continuing my adventures. My injury was relatively minor (there are advantages to being made of Lego) and, with a little bit of reassembly, I was soon as right as rain. I’ve been using my time to hang out in front of the fire with one of the family pets. The dog likes to chew things up, so I have chosen to spend my time with the cat most likely to scratch her nose if she gets too close. This is my friend Smoky and I think he makes a fairly impressive bodyguard. What do you think?

He hasn't knocked me off of anything yet. Fortunately, I can bounce right back up if he does.

Smoky is certainly an impressive bodyguard. I do hope that isn't a hungry look in his eye?

Unlike Nessie, he usually limits his gnawing to small animals he finds in the yard and bones he steals from the compost pail. He doesn't usually bother with plastic.

Smoky looks like an impressive protector. I'd watch it though...his size might cause him to lash out at you if you incur the wrath of Mrs J.

I think I'm pretty safe from him. It's the dog that worries me. She likes to gnaw. This is what she did to the spool of quilting thread she stole from the coffee table.

He is pretty big but he doesn't seem to be interested in chewing on plastic. He and I did some birdwatching together last autumn.

You really chose a handsome kitty to hang out with plus he looks capable of thwarting off the attentions of Nessie.

@rebelann My husband got zero sympathy when his nose was slashed. Invading a cat's personal space is risky business.

Looks can be deceiving. He doesn't appreciate being referred to as sweet. But he's a GREAT bodyguard. No one is gonna mess with me.

@Platespinner — I’m sorry! Let me say he looks sweet but I’m sure he’s got a mean streak a mile long and will jump on anyone who tries to harm you like ugly on ape!! (I know better than to get on a cat’s bad side.)

I suspect he might choke on me if he tried. It's the dog that worries me. She likes to chew.

His only problem as a bodyguard is that he won't follow me around. If I want his protection, I have to stick with him.

Smoky is a good buddy to have. When I'm with him, Nessie keeps her distance.

@Platespinner They are in competition, with one another. Our cat Mindy hated our dog, Teddy. She'd slap his face, twist his jowls. When he was younger, Ted was mean to her!

@kobesbuddy The dog really wants to play with the cats but they aren't interested. Our youngest cat was so terrified of the dog at first that she wouldn't come in the house. She's gotten better, though, and will now actually occasionally end up nose-to-nose with the dog, which makes Nessie VERY excited.

We have one at home. Garkitty sired by our fave cat, Garfol. We love to play with her. We enjoy seeing her playing around. She's a good mice catcher just like her Pa Garfol.
