My mom was so afraid of moving that when I said move to the lower floor she refused. She was living on the third floor and often times was stuck on the second level. she could not take out her trash, check her mail or anything knowing she had to return to the third floor. Last night when I went over I was very relieved to only walk up one flight. I could not visit often walking up three fights. Well before she took this place she told me that a few siblings did not want her to move. So she asked me. I said I am not thinking about what anyone says. I told her you have the store across the street. Your church around your parking lot. The laundry on the corner. And best of all you can now do things for yourself. So, last night she called to say how thankful she was to have walked up one light and go in her unit. She wanted something last night. I said girl get dressed and go to the store. You want to know what is nice. Someone very dear to my mom's heart lives in the next building. She said she is so happy now because he will not have to worry about eating. You see he is caring for a man he was raised with. The man is in a bad way But he refuses to put him in a home. Before it got bad he was making sure my mom was ok. Now my mom can be there for him. She was very happy now that she moved. How nice that she listens to my thoughts. I am happy she has moved. She will love her new unit more as the days and weeks go by. after church she can walk across the street and to the corner. How is that for independence. I am so glad for her.

That's great she has a lower apartment and is more mobile because of it.

Is your mom in reasonable health? I'm glad she is able to be more independent in the new place. That is one of my worst fears - losing my independence. I'm 78 and still manage very well.

I believe things happen for a reason. Sounds like your mom has a great place with all she needs close to her.
