Vehicle theft stories

This is in response to a story by @TheHorse At one time a friend, who was (and still is) working as a teacher, struggled with organisation. Since he was single and life tended to be quite spontaneous, he had decided to be prepared for whatever came up, so in his car he kept a smart tie (in case it was parents' evening and he had forgotten), a squash racket (in case a colleague suggested a game after work) and a nice bottle of wine (in case friends invited him to dinner). At this particular time though it was the summer holidays, so he was earning some money by working as a night porter at a summer school, keeping an eye on the students and being on hand in case of emergency. Since he didn’t have a washing machine at home, he had decided to take advantage of the facilities at the hall of residence, so he put a big bag of dirty laundry in his car. But then in a rush he forgot to pick it up. Next morning he got back to his car and found that someone had broken into it. However they had not bothered to take the nice bottle of wine, the expensive squash racket or the smart tie – instead they had made off with the dirty washing. We did wonder if they would bring it back next day, or if we might find the contents thrown over a fence somewhere, but we never did. Another friend used to have an MZ motorcycle (anyone remember them?) One evening he parked his bike and accidentally left the key in the ignition. When he came out in the morning he found someone had stolen the key! Since the ignition key of an MZ was really more of a metal peg than a key, he was able to replace it with a nail and ride off as usual. Another friend had the stereo stolen from her car by thieves who smashed the window. The really extra-annoying thing was that she had to pay to replace the window, when if the thieves had just tried the handle, they would have found that the car was unlocked! It happened all the time in Italy, the thieves broke the car window to steal the radio. People started to leave the car door open, but they did never check, they broke the window. Funny stories, I enjoyed reading.

@Fleura It would have been a good idea, hoping that the burglars could read.

@Fleura Now, unfortunately, many comes from north Africa or Eastern European countries, I suspect they do not even speak Italian.

These are funny. My friends left a nice cupboard on the sidewalk with a 'Free' sign on it but it was still there next day so they put a $5 sign on it and it got stolen!

My ex-wife put a bunch of items out by the road with a "free" sign on them and nobody took them. The neighbor asked if he could have all the items, and she said yes. He then sat all the same items out by the road with a "for sale" sign and ended up selling everything! Of course he was nice and went and offered half the money to my ex-wife! Funny how people are with stuff that's free versus having to pay for it. I guess people place a worth or value on an item based on what it costs!

These stories are incredible. Makes you wonder about the mind of a criminal. Anyway that story about the dirty laundry tops all stupidity. Wouldn't it have been great if the next day the laundry returned washed and folded??? One can dream cannot one?

Thieves are not always the sharpest tacks in the shed.

There had been bike thieves over here specially those people who can hacked the way to run the bike or when it's not guarded.
