This afternoon we said our goodbyes to Smooch the Cat. He has been the best friend any family could have, but now aged about 17, his frail body just didn't want to cope with life any longer.
Many of you came to know Smooch over the years, through different online sites. He was the sort of cat who won everybody's heart.
When we realised his time had come we took him to the vet. He's lived a long incredible life. We could have opted for treatment but there was no guarantee at his age that he would recover. We chose what we believe was the kindest decision for him. Now he's suffering no more.
Tears are flowing here, but we have so many wonderful memories.
Rest in peace Smooch, dear friend.

Yes they do @valmnz I've learned so much from all of mine and I still miss each of them. One veterinarian once told me not to be so sad, Prissy was 16 and ready to go so my helping her so she would not suffer was a kindness and that I should remember that if not for me, in this case you and your family, Prissy would not have had such a long life. It didn't comfort me right away but after losing several pets to old age I finally understood what she meant.

@hereandthere we've always said a home needs a cat. Who knows if there will be another.

17 is old for a cat. I think that you did the humane thing. Glad you have a lot of memories.

The worst part of having pets is this. Sorry to hear this. You will miss him and life without him will be so different for a while. Hope you will get over it soon.

@valmnz We animal lovers go through this and more pets we have more we have to face this though inevitable. I can well understand your loss. I am too attached to Preiti and just do not want to think she will not be in my life forever.

I know it hurts so much @valmnz . I have had 5 that passed since December 2016. They are like our kids. I'm so sorry about Smooch. But yes, he is in a better place.

@valmnz I know. You expect him to come walking around the corner at any time and you'll even call out his name.

I've grieved for the loss of my dear purrfriends too. The last was 2014 and it took me 3 years to have one again, a gift from my uncle actually.
I miss them, each are different from the other, each has their own personality. They all added joy to my life. But they have to go and cross the rainbow bridge
Now I just think of them as my furry angels watching over me always.
I feel you. I feel your loss.
RIP dear Smooch

I'm so sorry about Smooch. You did what's best for him and though it's difficult, sometimes we just have to let them go. Smooch will always be a part of your family and will always be loved.

I am so sorry and I am sending a hug, we have lost two of our dogs in the last year and understand very well the heartbreak involved.

@valmnz Dogs do have a different relationship with their owners usually but animal love is animal love and we still feel the pain of loss.
