What do you think about renewable energy

Do you think renewable energy has sufficient potential to save us after fossil fuels run out? Or do you think we will rather start exploiting some other non-renewable, polluting source of energy? I read somewhere that we could start harvesting uranium from the seawater and that way we would have enough fuel to feed our nuclear power plants for the next 5 billion years. That sound feasible, right? But the radioactive waste would likely pile up and swallow us with all our inventions much sooner than that!

The sun and the wind has always been there , its clean and free renewable energy. I think it's the greedy oil companies that have vested self interests that prevents us from harnessing it's full potential.

Yeah, well, that's right. But still...when considering what we have already invested in building our cars, airplanes, our whole cities, power grids...the transition to renewables would require pretty much taking all this down and completely re-structuring everything. Just imagine how huge change we would have to make in the transportation industry, as most of our car run on gasoline now - fossil fuel...

@tristanex phasing out should be done gradually, in stages since this things did not prop up overnight, I get what you mean, it's the politcal will that's more important to implement the changes.

@louievill I agree...political especially. Just look at how many political systems actually look backwards and politicians in charge just try to bring down values created by their predecessors.

Although currently expensive, I'm trying to put up solar panels in one of our homes. I think it is one positive way to help conserve the planet.

@tristanex read a report that alternative energy will cost as much as the regular energy sources that we have by 2020. Not sure how accurate is that report but I'm all for more affordable alternate energy.

@allen0187 Yeah, that can be very much possible. Because we will shift our industry and manufacture in that direction - so it will become the new normal.

yeah, I am for it as well. Cannot afford to power my whole place with solar panels at the moment, but will keep looking for these alternative options all the time.

I think that all options should be explored instead of focusing or relying on only one source.

Until you have free sun and air you can use it for power hydro electric and feasible too.

I don't think it has enough power. We could search for other options.
