Does it show my boss is an animal lover?

I was shocked when one of my colleague asked for a leave as he had his mom's birthday and his leave was not approved by the boss whereas another colleague got a leave as told he has to take Morphus (pet) his dog to doctor. I was amazed as well as upset . It shows how much partial he was towards the colleague whose leave wasn't approved. What do you say? Is he an animal lover?

Well, I suppose if the dog was seriously ill and needed to see the vet - I understand. Remember, the dog cannot go on his own, he would need someone to take him.

But a leave ...he should have asked this fellow to come late or to leave office early. Or may have asked that he should ask his wife to take his dog to the doctor.

It may have nothing to do with the reasons for leave but on the merit of the case.

What kind of boss you have, but there is something; you don't know if your boss owns same breed pet.

I think he does like animals and sympathizes with the one that had to take his do to the vet.

Hello @sjvg1976 Dogs are family I would choose my dog and look for another job. But then again, it's up to him if he wants to take a leave because of his pet.

Not necessarily. He might know that the dog's issue with needing to go to the vet is more an emergency, than the other person's mother's birthday that can be celebrated when he gets home.

It does sound a bit strange but you'd need to know the background to each case I guess. But it does seem he is an animal lover.

It would be different if it was also the dogs birthday.

I think sometimes it is more than just a straight forward comparison. Perhaps work ethics was involved or quality of work or how productive you were or how much of a habit you had to ask for time off. Sometimes you have factor all of this in. Also, a dog's health could have taken priority whereas the other person could have reached a bit late for his Mom's birthday. Remember the example the boss set will be scrutinized by all and probable set a trend. What if everybody suddenly want time off for birthdays?
