The Good Lord says, "You will always have the poor among you..."(John 12:8 NIV). It has been said that in so far as global poverty is concern that there are around 1.3 billion of world population that lives in extreme poverty, that is: living on less than $1.25 dollars a day. While according to UNICEF there are around 1 billion children around the world living in poverty and that around 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. Yes, indeed since the Great Rabbi uttered those words more than 2,000 years ago, the poor and povery is still with us... Picture credit: 2oceansvibe.com

Poverty is very rampant lmost everywhere. There are a lot of beggars everywhere. Based on my experience, I used to give alms but found out that some people make it a syndicate. And some do not beg at all but more of demand money. So I stopped giving. I donate to feeding programs and I donate used clothes.
The Good lord also said: "There is more happiness in giving than in receiving." I try to ascertain if the beggar is truly one before I give my tokens. Some persons are now professional beggars, preying on the generosity of people. It's good to give alms only that one has to be careful.
