Narrowly avoided an embarrassing situation there!

Last year I met a man who collected warm clothes and went around at night distributing them to homeless rough sleepers; it turned out he just lived in the next street and had been homeless himself in the past. A few times I passed on old but still useful clothes to him. Last week a woman offered some thermal long-johns on Freegle. I suggested I could pass them on to this man to give to someone in need, and she was keen to help and put together a couple of bags of warm sweaters, mis-matched socks, and sturdy shoes. I brought them home and thought I’d better check that the man still was collecting and distributing such things before going there with them, as I hadn’t seen him in a while. I sent him a text to ask – and got a reply saying he is now living in Cardiff, about 100 miles away! Lucky I checked – it could have been embarrassing if I’d been caught posting old socks and underwear through the letterbox of some totally random stranger! Oh that is a shame he is gone, who will be able to distribute these now? Yes that was a close call

It is a shame he is gone. It was a wonderful thing he was doing for the homeless. I wonder if he is doing that in his new home.

I hope you can find someone who directly distribute the clothing. The Charities throw a lot of good clothing, it is a shame.

I'm sure it won't be hard to find someone else who can use them, or you could just take them to a charity shop. I don't know about your area, but we don't have any homeless shelters nearby.

A charity shop couldn't sell them; they would send them for recycling, which would also raise a few pennies for them, so if I can't find anyone who can use them as they are, that's what I will do.

@Fleura Maybe a pastor has an idea how to get the clothes to needy people directly.

@MALUSE I've been put in touch with someone else who does a similar thing so hopefully they will get to where they are needed soon!

It was nice of you to think of it for them, did you take them to the shelter or pass them out?
