Become a Prisoner

I am not sure that there are many people who would like to experience spending the night in a prison cell but it is possible if you visit Latvia. For a good part of the 20th century Karosta Prison in the city of Liepaja, Latvia was used as a Nazi and Soviet military prison. Here many Latvian deserters were placed in solitary confinement or just taken outside and shot. I would think that such a prison would be full of tortured souls. However, today guards walk the halls of Karosta Prison and brave tourists agree to having an authentic jail experience staying at this rather unusual “boutique hotel”. When you visit Karosta Prison you can take a guided tour or choose the full experience that includes prisoner garb, interrogation, harassment and then be taken and locked up in a cold cell for the night. Personally, I think such an experience would bring on an anxiety attack unless they locked me up with a nice bottle of wine. Before taking on the full prison experience, tourists are warned that disobedience in prison could result in insult or physical punishment in the form of exercise or cleaning. Then they have to sign an agreement. What sometimes results in misunderstanding is that not all of the guards are completely fluent in English. You just might be condemned for a crime you never committed. I checked out their site knowing that if this is a hotel there must be more to it than spending the night in a jail cell. It is actually an experience you might enjoy if you are into adventure. They also offer various shows and games in which you can participate. There is a buffet with hot food available. Of course, as I already mentioned the tortured souls here are not silent. Karosta Prison has many of them and tourist can be treated to paranormal experiences like a light bulb unscrewing itself or their cell door suddenly opening by itself. It could be that some of these souls want to help you escape. Would you take on the prison experience?

I would not take that experience but would enjoy touring the prison. I have visited many old prisons.

I would like to take the tour. But I do not like enclosed places. So I would not stay the night.

No way! If I'm going to pay for an "adventure", it had better be comfortable and lots of fun.

Not for me, thank you. I imagine there are a lot of people who would if they are offering that kind of experience.

I wouldn't mind the tour but I would not spend the night and not because of the tortured souls left behind but for the punishment you might get if you do something wrong. Interesting though

I don't think I'd want to spend the night there but it does sound a neat tourist attraction.

A tour maybe, but not over night. And I think you're right, lots of tourtured souls. I wouldn't want to go there if I felt I was able to feel spirits
