Sitting as the New "Smoking"

I always remember the line I heard from a television show host saying "sitting is the new smoking!" It is a good reminder to always make sure to stand and walk a little after sitting for some 30 minutes to provide good blood circulation and to ease the joints. It says sitting for so long is comparable to smoking cigarettes which is bad for health. This is a good reminder for those who are always sitting in front of computers or television.

Is lying down counted as sitting too?

Yes, the same as sitting because of inactivity.

@acelawrites I think sitting is worse because of the position.

As for me, I get bothered by my frequent urination. I see to it that the moment I reached the office, I will drink a big glass of cold water equivalent to 1.5 amount ordinary glass. For the whole day, I should be drinking about 5 of that so I can really fulfill my should be daily requirement of water including that from home. Because of that, I keep urinating, sometimes twice an hour and the comfort room is outside our office. I would walk briskly too to make it an exercise. At least, I get to move every now and then from my laptop's desk. Hey, how are you? Are you still at postloop? I will PM you.

@acelawrites The number of posts at Superior Than has gone down from 20 to 5. I was banned there when I asked them to rate me.

Yes, this is true that is why I do my best to get at least 10,000 steps a day. I use my fitness band to track my steps.

@acelawrites it is similar to a smart watch. It tracks steps taken, distance covered, heart rate, and sleeping hours.

I'm pretty active throughout the day, even when I sit down to myLot. I am up and down multitasking.

It is good to be active always. A little standing and walking can mean a lot for our health.

I hope this post can help a lot of our friends to just stand a bit after so many hours of sitting in front of the computer. I am glad you are doing it.

I have walked today for 2 hours and in front of cp for more hours than that. It is hard to get off online when I am writing a blog. Time just fly away.

One fundamental difference between the two is that you cannot harm other people with "passive sitting".

I need to get up and move around more than I do. I tend to sit for far too long either reading or crocheting

We really tend to forget to stand once in a while when we are engrossed in doing things we really love.

I blame it on chairs becoming too comfortable over the years.

It is a good reminder for people who ignore moving once in a while due to their works.
