Picture courtesy of google. Rose rang the doorbell last Sunday, I promised her a belated Christmas gift. Rose is the neighborhood suman supplier. Suman is a native rice cake wrapped in banana or coconut leaves. I asked Rose the standard Kumusta na? The Tagalog phrase is a question on the status of a person, about health, work, finances, and all other matters. At once Rose responded with her need to buy spiked shoes for her son Mark David. Why? Because he is set to compete internationally again as a member of the Philippine Baseball team. Wow, I gasped, he is Blue Boys? I knew that in Asia, we are unconquerable in that Diamond Field. Yes, answered Ruth, and he has been to Singapore and another Southeast Asian country, Australia, and Japan-bound soon. Ths sports program does not sponsor the uniform and the shoes, so all of Ruth's meager earnings go to the field outfit. Sigh. I felt overwhelmingly happy after Ruth left. One of her children has finally caught a dream. I love seeing poor people succeed.

I love suman, she must be a real proud mom. Things like this only comes to show how Philippine government support for our amateur athletes really sucks

Indeed. Poor athletes. They should be focusing on enhancing their skills and yet they are impeded by the bare necessities such as gears and nourishment. Sigh. But if the athletes are scions, wow, they get to be featured on magazines.

Now those people should have their own movie or that similar to MMK stories. These inspires other people to succeed.

Very inspiring indeed. He gave hope to his family. Knight, is that you on the photograph? Must be. You look young, like a boy.

The government cannot be depended upon on sports matters. The condition of the mass transport in Metro Manila alone is deplorable. Now there is shortage of rice, passports, and even booklets for persons with disabilities. Sigh. Sports has a long wait still.

Yes. For the whole family also. Poor families in my country take pride if one member of the brood has gone to a foreign land. The children marvel at the stories about strange places in far away lands. So, they are given hope and encouragement.

@nife2018 Yes, I do hope that happens, since he has seen places and knows there's a world out there as a huge playground.

@rheicel I promised Rose I'd watch the games. The boys need my loud voice to cheer them up and jeer the opponent. Ha ha.

So will she be able to buy him the spiked shoes after all? I guess she will find a way to get them. Very inspiring story too and I hope he goes far very far in his field of game. I did not know that you were the leaders also as we do not get to see that here at all.
