My Brother Was in a Car Accident

Earlier today my youngest brother was in a car accident. He was driving his truck for work (he's a delivery driver for an electrical company) when he started across an intersection on a green light; he saw a lady plowing through the intersection from the side (on a red light for her) and he slammed on his breaks. She crashed into the front of his car, skid and hit a van with a family inside. Her car and the van were totaled, and the family in the van all had to be transported to the hospital via ambulance due to injuries. Thankfully my brother spotted the lady as she was careening through the intersection and was able to slam on his breaks, so instead of crashing into the side of his truck, she only hit the front. If she had hit the driver's side he would probably be badly injured or possibly even dead. Thanks to his quick reflexes he is okay, but his back is hurt. His workplace knows what happened, and his boss even came out and gave him a ride home, so if any injuries present themselves later on, workers comp should cover it. I am so glad my baby brother is okay. This was the second accident he's been in in the past year. Neither one was his fault; both times the other drivers were not paying attention to the road and just plowed into him. I hope the family that was injured today will be okay and that none of their injuries were fatal. I wish drivers would pay attention to the road. This is one reason why I'm afraid to drive (I have my license but don't like driving.) So many people are reckless behind the wheel. They have no regard for others' safety or their own. People who can't be bothered to pay attention to the road have no business driving.

Happy to hear your brother is fine and safe. I hope everyone involved is okay. It is scary to be on the road and if only everyone took their time driving and not just rush!

Exactly. Everyone is in a rush to get somewhere, and then a lot of them are busy looking at their phones instead of the road in front of them. Getting wherever they're going 30 seconds sooner is not worth it to risk their lives and the lives of others!

@Srbageldog Yes, easier said than done. Some people just don't know how precious a life is and they need to not rush. I wish everyone took their time. Not worth the rush.

That is good to hear, that everyone seems to be okay. But i agree, drivers should really be more attentive to the road signs and signals I think the punishment should be higher so they would take it seriously

I agree! This lady didn't even get a ticket! She should have gone to jail or have been fined a large sum for causing an accident due to negligent driving.

It is so bad that people do not pay attention, they just want to cross without caring for their vehicle and life. Your brother although have to be more cautious, because he is taking care too.

@Srbageldog Working as driver have to be very careful, any careless driver's fault will land in trouble also.

Yes, hopefully my brother will be even more cautious now that he knows that other drivers are so careless. I do not understand how people can be so reckless when driving.

I hope that you're brother will recover from this accident. It's really not safe on the road no matter how careful you are.

It's really not. You can be the most cautious driver on the road, but you can't control other drivers.

All is well that ends well! At the end of the day every one of your family is safe and you should be happy for that! Otherwise from the description in your discussion things could have been worst. Thanks the Almighty and pray for the quick recovery from the minor injuries incurred! Thanks! God bless!

I understand it dear @Srbageldog ! In the profession of driving such things are part and parcel of it! accidents after all are accidents...nobody can forecast or predict about them. But then now a days the people are becoming too fast, reckless and rough with their driving to make our lives miserable. There is no surety that we would be safe if we drive safely as some one can come unexpectedly and bang you! Very bad state of traffic! Yes,let us pray the Almighty that the family members taken to the hospitals be taken care and let them be safe! Thanks!

Yes, I am glad that my brother is safe and not seriously injured! I worry about him because he drives for a living. I hope that the family who had to be taken to the hospital are okay.

Hope your brother and the family inside the van recover fully and quickly. You can be as safe as you can driving but that means nothing if other drivers are reckless.

Thank you. And yes, exactly. I am always seeing other drivers do stupid, reckless things. One time we were at an intersection and our light was green, but the cars with the red light just kept going, like they weren't even paying attention to the stoplights and figured if the car in front of them was going, it must be okay. Idiots.

Why did she crossed on a red light? She is responsible of the accidents of course. I am glad your brother was not more seriously hurt.

@Srbageldog May be she was looking at her smartphone, like too many people in these days. They text while they drive.

Glad to hear your brother is okay. And I really hope that driver that ran the red light and caused the accident wasn't texting while driving or talking on their cell phone; so many accidents today are caused by distracted drivers on their phones. Sometimes I wonder if it's safer to take your chances with drunk drivers rather than drivers distracted by their phones. Either way, innocent people are the ones who always seem to end up being the hurt ones in these situations.

Apparently the driver who caused the accident was a 17 year old girl. My brother thinks she was either texting or just thought she could race through the red light. He said he always waits a few seconds before crossing the intersection when his light turns green, so she would have had a red light for at least a few seconds before she decided to plow ahead.

@Srbageldog I do the same thing your brother does. I always hesitate a few seconds before proceeding through an intersection after my light turns green. I see people running red lights on just about a daily basis. It's better to be cautious with so many distracted drivers out there nowadays.

She was either not paying attention or under the influence. We live in California and have been having very nice weather, so no bad road conditions here.

She was a 17 year old girl and we are not sure what she was thinking. She was probably playing with her phone and not paying attention to the road.

Good to know that your brother is safe and also for that lady who would have been seriously injured if your brother has not applied the brakes on time. That's true most of the accidents occur due to other's fault not ours.

Yep, you see it all the time! People get run over (one little girl got killed several years back) because stupid drivers can't bother to pull their noses away from their phones while they're behind the wheel. Thank you, yes, I said the same thing, he'll probably be hurting worse the next day.

Thank you. It's not even my own driving I don't trust, it's other people! But it's also dangerous to walk anymore, as cars are always nearly plowing me down.

Yes, I am grateful he was not seriously injured! People really are getting worse and worse at driving. I don't even know how some of them pass the driver's exam to get their driver's license in the first place.

Yes I agree. It is really not easy to drive a car. We can't really tell no matter how careful we are in driving only those reckless drivers are the ones we have to worry.

Exactly. You can be the most cautious driver in the world, but if some reckless driver comes your way, it makes no difference. Drivers have to be extra cautious and think fast to avoid getting into accidents in such situations.
