This morning my hubby and I ran over to pick up his sister to take to the eye doctor to make arrangements to have her cataracts removed. Both of her eyes need to have cataracts removed. One of them is pretty bad and the other one is even worse. Apparently her one eye is covered including the pupil. She can't see hardly a little bit. As we sat in the office waiting for her to be called into the back I looked around at the other patients. I immediately felt very blessed that I had decent sight. I could not image not being able to see to cross stitch, make jewelry, read the words in a book. see a beautiful sunset, write on the computer, and a million other things that you do need your eyes for. Sometimes I forget to be thankful for what I have. This morning I was brought down to earth with a bang. I am thrilled and blessed to have my hearing, my eyesight, my ability to speak and so many other things. God had been good to me.

My mother in her late years was almost blind. She was affected by macular degeneration, there is nothing you can do to stop it.

@HazySue My mom was diagnosed when she was around 70 years old. She had treatments and she arrived at 97 still being able to live alone and see enough to avoid help.

@LadyDuck that is wonderful. My husband was diagnosed when he was in his 40's. His sight has been getting worse little by little. He's now 67 and he can still read a newspaper with a lot of light and a powerful magnifying glass.

We just have to look around us to appreciate what we do have and be thankful.

Absolutely. No matter how bad you think you have it there is always someone who has it much worse.

This is a gentle reminder how blessed we really are. After reading your post the nasty weather outside doesn't seem so important

I am often watching programs that remind me that my little problems are no where as big as some of those other people out there. It makes me thankful for all that I do have.

I've always been thankful for my sight, and other senses. But more so since meeting my bf almost 8 years ago because without his glasses he can hardly see a thing.

@HazySue so how did the surgery go for her? I have two pairs of glasses and one pair of contact lenses. My vision is not good but thank heavens can still see.

sometimes we take for granted what we already have. It's a good realisation you had today.

The gift of sight is really a miracle and blessing to us by God. I am very grateful for this blessing we just forget to realize at times

I know I forget sometimes how lucky I am. Seeing how others have such extensive health issues reminds me how lucky I am.

When so many of us have so much to be thankful for, I get annoyed when people become so petty and spiteful over small issues.

So do I. If they would just take a little piece of time each day to be thankful for what they have there would not be so many problems in the world.
