Have Any of You Watched the Movie Cloud Atlas?

I made the mistake of watching the movie Cloud Atlas on Netflix the other night. I liked the idea of a sci-fi/fantasy type of movie {I usually do!} and seeing the cast line-up of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and Hugh Grant, I figured it had to be pretty good! While I though the storyline itself was quite fascinating, the violent graphic scenes in the movie really were a turn-off. I think I listened to more of the movie than actually watched it because there were so many times I had to look away from the screen! What do you think? Does violence in movies distract from the main story? Have you watched Cloud Atlas? Did you like the movie? What were your thoughts?

I've read the novel. I don't remember any violent scenes.

I really wish I had read the book first! That sounds like the typical movie industry - take a great storyline and make it violent. The novel description doesn't sound violent either when I read it just now! I guess it really is in one's perspective on interpretation! I'm glad my imagination isn't nearly as crazy as the filmmaker's was!
