She licked my nose!

I've been talking for months now about Opal. How she's so cute and all that. Well, tonight she got on my desk, climbed behind my monitor and knocked a few things off the desk. I pick those things up and then she comes out again for another attempt to knock stuff off. I was ready for her this time and got all the stuff out of her way. She sat down in front of me and I leaned in to give her a kiss. Not that she likes being kissed that much, but... Sometimes, however, she leans back toward me and will sniff my nose. This time she sniffed and sniffed and then gave me a few licks. That's a first! I was excited! I've got a few other cats who will lick me, but most of the ones that did have passed away now. I rather doubt it will become the norm, but I'll take what I can get from Opal.

Cats are lovely when they come to lick you. A black kitten of my neighbor liked to come and lick my nose.

They are. Opal isn't the most lick-y cat I've had, but she didn't have a mother, or even a uncle like Oliver did, to groom her. When Sparky, who likes to groom other cats, licks her, she growls and hisses.

@LadyDuck she grooms herself, but doesn't like the other cats to do it.

I've had only 1 that passed that when asked would give me a kiss @ElicBxn . I do have one now that is 2-years-old that when I say, "Give me a kiss"; he reaches up and will kiss me on the mouth. He doesn't use his tongue, he actually uses his mouth; like a pucker-up. His name is Snowball. Opal is such a sweetie-pie.

@nanette64 The first time we tossed out treats when she was around, there she was in the middle of it all, growling up a storm and the big cats would look over like... "what's your problem kid?"

She is. She is also very opinionated. So funny to hear these big growls coming out of her tiny body.

@ElicBxn I know right? I've got one that sounds like a Tiger. Where that comes from, I'll never know.

She is a beautiful kitty. There is no way to predict what they will do. So we live with it, and enjoy it, and it is fun.

She is beautiful. I was holding her yesterday and she jerked up and bit my cheek. Brat.

I just realized I hadn't responded to this. (Bad Elic! Bad Elic!) Glad Manny is discovering the joys of laps.

That is really cool. My cat so far has not licked my nose. She does at times lay up against me when I am laying on the couch and want to be close to me. Opal is beautiful and understand what you are saying that you will take what you get from her.

I had to throw her out of the front room because she kept jumping on my back. Between her nails, and my sore back, this was getting very painful.

@Hannihar She doesn't know better, she's only 7 months old. I'd be really upset if one of the older cats did it, even more so if it had been a much larger cat. Four pounds hitting my back isn't even in the same league as 12 or 16.

@ElicBxn Yes, I have to chase my cat out of the room too when trying to work. It makes sense that you had to do that so you could get things done. That is horrible what she did to you ElicBxn.

It's the cats that are more reserved with the expression of their affection that make the biggest impression. They're usually the ones who turn out to be the biggest lovers! You will never know with Opal, her giving you a kiss on the nose may very well become the norm, this first time was her just testing the waters to see what would happen if she did. Give your furry babies hugs and kisses from me. I keep hoping for just one Siamese kitten from Bill. But he is very set in his ways about having animals in the house. I told him about the Great Dane that wanted to come home with me and I thought Bill was going to pass out on the spot! He's a neat freak of sorts (Bill, not the Great Dane ) so I can understand his feelings about the animals. It's just that I miss my babies soooooooo much. Hug Opal for me too.

She has been licking my nose off and on since this. She's gotten a bit bigger, but is still funny with her reactions. For a cat who's been safe inside since she was 4 days old, she really reacts to things you wouldn't expect.

Me too, even if they don't consider them kisses like we do.

Opal thought you deserved the same treatment! Sometimes my cat will wash my arm when he is washing himself. He thinks as long as he is doing grooming, he should groom mama too.

Thanks Arthur - the wife took it, not bad for a person who doesn't see too good. I wanted to respond earlier, but she was laying upside down in my arm and I couldn't type...

I don't know. I've leaned in and touched her nose with mine since she was a tiny kitten. I often then followed the nose touch with a kiss on the head. Now, despite our thinking that cat licks are kisses, that isn't correct. Its not outside of the possibility that I got some food, or oil from food, on the tip of my nose, or maybe she just thought I needed some grooming.
