you cant fight an idea with military. It is everywhere. you control the money they use to wage war and they cant do their biddings. What is complicated about that? their money is oil and you have to control that with military and intel yes. This whole idea of we are in Iraq for the US to have oil is a bad thing is not the whole story but nowone accepts that

You cannot fight terrorism in any manner, especially if you are (culturally) bound and gagged by political correctness. That is why terrorism is so effective. And I believe that the terrorists are winning now, and will win in the end.

You are partially correct when you say that it is better to take away their money than sending a lot of soldiers to fight terrorists but I think you mean more on BUYING POWER when you say that, don't you? Problem with countries in the middle east is that their culture is very much different than what the American people have. They don't have as much material attractions (or should I say distractions?) as Americans, so where do you think they get to spend whatever money or US$ they have? I think the best weapon that the US has and SHOULD USE against terrorism is ideology and the American way of life. Put a Mcdonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, US TV shows, movies, encourage them to build tourist attractions to get American tourists, and sooner or later, whole countries get "Americanised" and the terrorists won't be able to recruit anyone because everyone is busy with the "American" way of climbing the corporate and social ladders, wearing western business suits, eating burgers and fried chicken, wearing Rolex watches, etc and you will just get the terrorism to go away. One good example is Turkey, where even though it is Muslim but western ways are welcome there. Do you have Turkish terrorists? Maybe but when people become rich and prosperous, the passion to bomb other people is simply not existent. They would rather sit pretty in front of their 48" Plasma screens watching "the Apprentice" Just a thought.
