Two sickies in my house

Wednesday my daughter started feeling sick. She laid around chilled under blankets and sleeping all day. It was my fathers bday so my son and I went over and brought her a piece of ice cream cake home. I kept her home from school Thursday. She was doing better though but still needed to rest. She went back to school Friday. She had a phlemy cough in the morning so last night I had her propped up on pillow while she slept. Friday morning my son started not feeling well. He made it through his first two live classes and some of his homework. By the third live class he was laying on the couch and not able to concentrate to think about writing that he was supposed to be doing. I took his temp under his arm and it was 101. The paper said underarm temps are 1 lower so really his temp was 102. I got in the cupboard and got him some natural cough and fever medicine. I talked to the teacher about his work and logged out of lessons and let him sleep. He woke up an hour or two later and had a bad headache and his cheeks were pink. I took his temp again it showed 102.7 which means it was really 103.7 yikes. I got him Advil this time realizing the other medicine was not working. Within a half hour he felt better and got up to walk oatmeal. He threw up right after then another 4 times over the next few hours. He ate a cracker and a bit of water before bed. He was very pale. This morning he seems a lot better. No fever, no vomiting but he is coughing constantly has a snotty nose and a lot of phlem. I’m thinking those two weeks of noises he was making were nasal drip which is turning into bronchitis. I’m going to get him fresh cough medicine at the store and if he’s any worse by Monday will be taking him to the doctor (or before then depending). The photo is him. He rolled off the couch an onto the floor yesterday I asked why and he said because it was flatter

He is better today no fever or vomiting. If he was still as sick as yesterday I was going to take him to the walk in today but I don’t think he needs it. If it was the flu he would still be as sick as yesterday or worse.

Out of nowhere he spiked a fever again so I took him to the doctor the actual doctor said it wasn't the flu but a sinus thing that will last a few weeks. The other guy said its the same thing as a URI flu.

I think it's better to go to see a doctor if he does not improve in the next few hours.

He doesn’t have a fever or vomiting today just the cough and snotty nose today. I usually wait a few days to see if the symptoms improve or get worse. I don’t like them being put on antibiotics for every little thing. If his cough was less frequent I wouldn’t give him over the counter medicine for that either. I usually try natural things but the natural medicine didn’t work so I have to go with regular stuff.

@shaggin About antibiotics I fully agree with you, doctors abuse of antibiotics in our days, so when they are really needed the body does not react anymore.

@LadyDuck Anti-biotics abuse according to the WHO is now a humanitarian crisis. I wonder what solutions they will come up with. It is just all about the money.

It's hard with a household - when one gets sick, you just know it's going to circulate and everyone eventually gets sick. I hope your son feels better soon . . . whatever is going around this year is a doozy. I know one boy in my son's class had a bad case of coughing yesterday in the morning - by late morning I heard he threw up in class and was sent home. Hopefully your son will be able to get good rest over the weekend . . . you take care of yourself too!

My daughter didn't seem nearly as sick as my son but the same thing can effect people different. My son throws up anytime he gets and mucus. I'm glad it's not a stomach bug I was worried about catching it and not being able to take care of them and the puppy. I wound up taking him to the ER because his fever spiked again at 102.5 and the walk in was closed. The doctor said he doesn't have a flu that it's a sinus thing that will go away in a few weeks. The other guy said its the same as a URI flu.

I went to bed early last night in case I had to get up with him in the night or wound up sick myself. I should probably do the same tonight. He was sleeping on my shoulder for awhile then went and got a bath and just fell asleep on the couch with his towel on.

@shaggin That's true - everyone can react to sickie germs differently. And they might even have different germs from wherever they got it from. I guess it's hard for even doctors to differentiate what things are - symptoms can be so similar. Hopefully it's just a matter of letting the sickies ride its course and that it all goes away in time. In the meantime - hang on - and everyone get as much rest as possible!!

He told me to give him a over the counter cough and cold medicine which I had just bought, as well as Advil which I was already doing and wrote him a prescription for a nasal spray. I'm just glad it was not bronchitis.

I always knew you were kind of sick, Shaggin, but I sure didn't expect your kids to follow that closely in your footsteps! "The floor was flatter"??? I used to lay in the floor because it was colder but this is the first time I've heard a floor might be better to lay on because it was flatter than the couch! I LIKE your kind of sick, but really hope your kids don't keep going the way they are! (Your son sounds like he should be seeing a doctor, hon... a temperature that keeps rising isn't a good thing!)

His fever was gone this morning when I wrote this. I was so happy I thought his sickness was just going to be short-lived like my daughter's. But then about noon his fever spiked so I decided to take him to the walk -in clinic. It was closed when we got there though so I took him down to the ER. The doctor said he doesn't think it is the flu. He thinks it is a sinus thing as he could see it draining down the back of his throat. So at least it isn't the flu or bronchitis. No antibiotics were given and he should be better in a few weeks is what he said. This seems like the sinus cold he gets every year but it usually turns into bronchitis like what happens to me every few years.

I am sorry to hear about your kids. How are you feeling? I hate bronchitis. That is something I would get a lot in the winter and for it is not much fun, I hope they get better soon and you do not catch it.

I'm feeling fine haven't caught it yet. My daughter recovered after about 24 hours but my son is sicker. For three days he ran a 103 fever but so far today just coughing but no fever. I'm hoping the fever is gone for good now. The doctor said it is a sinus thing not the flu or bronchitis thankfully!

That is so wonderful your neice was better after only 4 days. Kids usually get hit pretty hard with it. I wound up taking him to the ER today after his fever spiked again and the doctor thankfully did not think it was the flu or bronchitis. He thinks it's a sinus thing that will go away in a few weeks.

He told me to keep using Advil to lower his fever, keep using the triamnic otc for the couch and sinus relief and then wrote him a script for a nasal spray. His fever was again 102.9 this morning.

Usually when he makes those noises like that it is always a sign he is coming down with something. The noises usually go away after a few days once the sickness starts but the noises last much longer. Then he was completely fine for two days then boom was knocked out by this fever. I did wind up taking him to the ER today because he spiked a fever again today and the walk-in clinic was closed. The doctor said it is not the flu that it is a sinus thing that will go away in a few weeks.

Your life is such a roller coaster. Wow. I do hope the kids are better. How do you managed? I just read this and already feel burn out. You are such a level headed person to administer the medicine and wait to see if there is improvement. I would have already reached the doctor...drats, you have me panicking!

He was much better this morning so I wasn't worried when I wrote this but the his fever spiked again so I decided I would take him to the walk in clinic since tomorrow they wouldn't be open. It closed an hour before we got there though so I just took him down the hall to the ER. The doctor said that he has a sinus thing that will last a few weeks but isn't the flu. The other guy working there said that it's the same as the URI flu. At least it's not bronchitis or a stomach bug. Keeping his fever reduced and cough suppressed will be all that is done for care until he is better. They gave me a nasal saline spray to use as well.

He is being very ornery this morning. He didn't even want me touching him to take his temperature. He has aspergers so he doesn't like to be touched to begin with so not feeling good I understand I must feel even worse. His temperature was 102.9 when I checked him this morning and immediately gave him Advil and the otc cough and cold medicine. With him not wanting to be touched I don't think he would allow me to do that acupuncture. I will look it up though thank you

I seems there are a lot of sinus infections associated with this cold and flu season. I have had co workers who have been really sick. I never got rid of my cough after the pneumonia, and the doctor has put me on another antibiotic because it has been two months. She says it could be sinus or bronchitis or both. I think you are doing a good job keeping an eye on him to help him get better.

I was happy this morning while I wrote this as his fever was gone and no more vomiting so I thought it was just going to pass really quickly like his sister's sickness did. Then all the sudden a few hours later his fever spiked. I took him to the walk-in but it was closed so we had to go to the ER which I hate doing. The doctor doesn't think it is the flu or bronchitis so that's good. He said it's a sinus thing and will go away in a few weeks. Basically I could have just stayed home but at least I know I was right. Usually he gets this then it turns to bronchitis though. I get it and the same thing happens.
