A band that regularly shows up in my music series' appears once again. We are at #4 in my countdown of my favorite songs with "queen" in the title: "Queen of the Reich" by Queensryche. The first single from the Seattle metal band's 1983 debut EP, Queensryche, "The Queen of the Reich" is probably best known for being the source of the group's name (the spelling of "Reich" was changed because the band wanted to avoid any connection with Nazi Germany.) The band was originally called "The Mob," but changed the moniker to "Queensryche" out of necessity upon signing their first contract after it was discovered that another band called "The Mob" already existed (and "Queensryche" is both more metal and memorable, anyway.) As a single, the song was a very minor hit in the UK, where it charted at #94. It was also featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Queensryche? Oh man, they were a great metal band. I say "were" because the lead guitarist and the vocalist are no longer in the band. SPIN Magazine once accurately called them "thinking man's metal."

@teamfreak16 Who does the vocals these days? I haven't kept up on them since they had the lawsuit over who got to keep the band name. I got to see them in Tucson in 1995, where they did Operation: Mindcrime in its entirety as part of their Promised Land tour. I saw them again in 2000 when they opened (no longer headliner status!) for Iron Maiden, but Chris DeGarmo was gone by then. I think they were at their peak at that first show.

He is one of my favorites. I don't listen to anything that they've done since they fired him.

And you just can't put an umlaut in "The Mob" the way you can in "Queensrÿche."

Very, very good metal band from Seattle. Their original singer is one of my favorites.
