Favorite "King" Songs #3 - "Bring Me the Disco King"

The third time's the charm, as they say, and by coincidence, we are at #3 in my countdown of my favorite songs with "king" in the title: "Bring Me the Disco King" by David Bowie. Lots of history behind "Bring Me the Disco King." Bowie originally intended the song as a high energy inclusion to his 1993 album, Black Tie White Noise, but it failed to make the cut, and failed again for his 1997 record, Earthling. For his 2003 album, Reality, Bowie slowed the tune down, stripping it down into a somber, jazzy affair (just Mike Garson on piano, Tony Visconti on bass, and Matt Chamberlain on drums,) and it finally saw the light of day. The pretty song was not released as a single. However, former Nine Inch Nails bassist/keyboardist Danny Lohner added the talents of Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, in-demand session drummer Josh Freese, and actress Milla Jovovich to a remix that he used in his soundtrack to the 2003 movie, Underworld. I have linked to an outstanding live performance of the song. Oh, to have been in the audience that night! Enjoy! (Disco royalty info verified by Wikipedia)
Recorded at Hammersmith Riverside Studios on September 8, 2003.

This is one of my favorite David Bowie songs, although I have a preference for the remix since it's the first version I ever heard. I could swear that it's the version he performed on the Reality Tour, but I'm not 100% certain.
This is a remix by ex-Nine Inch Nails bass player/keyboardist Danny Lohner for the soundtrack to the 2003 film Underworld. Maynard James Keenan, Milla Jovovi...

I like that version a lot. I used to have the Underworld soundtrack. That was one of the reasons I bought it.

@teamfreak16 Same here, and then the soundtrack was why I went to see the movie.

I'm listening to the studio version right now. This is so incredible. It sounds like Steely Dan with Frank Sinatra singing lead. Only Bowie could pull that off.

It's just a beautiful song. The man was still making great music at a point when most seem content to put out sub-par albums and just tour on the strength of their old stuff. The Stones come immediately to mind.
