'Home Ec.' Ought to Teach Students ''*Why* They Should Do Those Things'' (Home Economics)

Well, I never took 'Home Ec.' (a class taught by most American high-schools), because I didn't know that they taught 'why you have to do the tasks they teach.' So I don't know, maybe they already teach you 'why.' But I foolishly thought I had already learned all I need to in 'years-&-years' (it felt like ) of Occupational Therapy---after my Traumatic Brain-Injury, OT was another 'area of therapy' I had to "undergo" (undertake? along with Physical-, Vocal- & 'Psychological/Intellectual'-Therapy). OT is basically exercises in 'daily life'---from bathing to 'folding laundry' etc. But it never taught me 'why I need to do those things.' (I think that's because most 'patients' there are either 'already taught "why"' or 'destined to live the rest of their lives having most of the tasks done for them.') 'The main "why" I needed to know' was "why people use cover-sheets on their beds (not the sheets & blankets one sleeps underneath, but a sheet to cover the mattress beneath them)." And I learned the hard way: bed bugs (dust mites). See--even if you're super-clean (like I thought I was as a twenty-something)--your body constantly excretes filth ... oh, it's usually 'clean' filth (carbon-dioxide, sweat, hair, dead skin); but the bugs/mites eat it just as quickly. I slept 'bare mattress,' so every night I left a veritable feast for the bugs/mites (again, it was 'invisible' to me & probably invisible to anyone who saw it; but to the bugs/mites ... it's like 'a pile of manure'---the flies gather so!) That's why you sleep on top of a sheet (and beneath the other(s)) which you clean regularly (weekly ... daily? if you're dirtier than normal, I guess)---to get rid of the 'filth' (carbon-material, mostly) before the bugs/mites learn about it. I'm sure there's lots of other "Home Ec." 'reason why'-lessons (probably similar reasons-why) that we don't want to "learn the hard way" (why we bathe/shower regularly, why we vacuum/sweep/mop etc.) Any others we should know about? https://www.bustle.com/articles/136239-how-often-you-should-wash-your-sheets-to-avoid-these-5-gross-things

okay, well i did take home-ec AND my mom was a home-ec teacher, so it was taught to me from a very young age. i was sewing and cooking and doing interior design 'games' since the age of 4-5. but i never ever knew about the undersheet thing. i mean, it completely makes sense, but it just never came to my mind, and no, nobody ever taught it in home-ec! LOL

"Go tell it to the world!"
I find the 'suggest' option a very useful option. I could always 'suggest' my own posts and I do suggest my posts to my followers. What I found interesting...
