Yes. I'm late with this post since National Pizza Day was February 9th. But I'm early when you consider that National Pizza Month isn't until October.
What do you think of this fun fact? I don't believe it!
"80% of Americans consider pizza as one of their favorite foods."
80%?? Only 80??
First. I think this fact is wrong.
Second. Even if it's right, what is the percentage of Italians who consider pizza their fave food? Not Italian-Americans. Italian-Italians! Just curious.

I am Italian and the number of Italians who consider pizza their favorite food is surely a lot less than Americans. We northern do not consider pizza such a great thing to eat, it's just bread with a bit of tomato on top. I think that Americans do not like real Italian pizza, just like we Italians do not like American pizza. Too much cheese on top, too many ingredients, too crunchy crust.

I wouldn't say it's my very favorite food, but I do consider pizza to be "one of" my favorites foods. I do see a major difference in the "qualities" of various pizzas . . . so it depends on the pizza too. I would love to try what an Italian-Italians consider to be an "authentic" pizza. I know 2 (American) kids who actually don't care for pizza!

I suspect it's different, but have no proof. I got the idea watching an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" where the family went on vacation to Italy. Ray bought a slice of pizza and he was like ... in awe of how good it tasted! He said he'd never tasted anything like it. I could only imagine the party going on inside of his mouth.

@cmoneyspinner If Raymond hadn't ever tasted anything like it . . . then maybe we're not eating real pizzas . I imagine the crust being thinner - not like the crazy stuffed ones we have now - with simple and healthier toppings.

@much2say I am not sure that Americans would like real Italian pizza. You love to have tons of cheese on your pizza, while the real pizza has only a little cheese on top, what matters is a perfect crust. I have the feeling that in America you cannot even feel the taste of the crust, is buried under a ton of ingredients.

Chances are there are only about 80% who do due to the fact that there is so many different types of varieties out there, and styles and restaurants, and not everyone of them is Good. Best place I have found for Pizza is Chicago

My husband used to say how much he did not like pizza, in between wolfing down a few slices. He made me laugh. But I take your point. I know there are a lot of people who don't like pizza and some other people who have made Friday night pizza a tradition at their house.

@amadeo - Yes. I find that I also don't enjoy pizza as much as I did when I was younger.

I love pizza but here in Latvia to order pizza is expensive. I am all alone so making it for myself is too much trouble so I stick with frozen pizza and add additional toppings.

Not sure about Latvia but there are some frozen pizzas in the US grocery stores that are pretty good and adding extra toppings makes them even better!
