Geography Question: Is Sweden in Japan?

Sweden in Japan

OK. My bad! Shared a post a few weeks back about a 6-hour workday in Sweden. Turns out it was a failed experiment and the Swedes are back to a regular 8-hour workday like the rest of us! To make up for that I found another very interesting fact to share about Sweden. Sort of. Geography was never my favorite subject. But if somebody asked the question "Is Sweden in Japan?" on a game show, I'd get the answer right. YES! I like to collect bits and pieces about cultural diversity: our differences, our similarities, and wonderful examples of when "we blend". This small town in Japan, Sweden Hills, is an admirable example of cultural fusion. OK. Yeah. It's also money-maker and brings in lots of tourists. There's a Midsummer festival in June, Lucia festival in December and some sort of tasting party that revolves around a stinky fish, Surströmming, fermented Baltic herring. But the residents are Japanese and have adapted their lifestyle to Swedish customs and traditions, clothing, etc. I'd be happy to visit such a place on planet earth.

This is sick in my opinion. Why would anyone want to live like someone else? Why would Japanese live like Swedes? Have they also dyed their hair blond?

I don't think it's sick. I can clearly see the money angle which is why it was started. KA-CHING! I don't think the person who started it was Japanese but the Japanese people certainly did not object. Which is what I find extremely interesting because I remember the TV mini-series “Shogun”, based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell. “The Kamakura shogunate lasted for almost 150 years, from 1192 to 1333.” (Wikipedia) The one line that I can recall from all of those is episodes is “In Japan, there is 'no other way'.” So to know there's a town in Japan that has totally adapted itself to Swedish traditions and customs? That's a total flip-flop. That country went from 'no other way' TO 'Eh! Let's try this way. Why not?'
Web Japan > Kids Web Japan > Explore Japan > History > Shoguns Explore Japan History Q. Who were the shoguns? A. The word "shogun" is a title that was granted by the Emperor to the country's top military commander. During the Heian period (794-1185) the me

I like the idea of Japanese living like Swedes. Maybe it failed in some places, but several companies are at 28 or 30h of work/week in Sweden since many years. Metalworkers in Germany have recently obtained to work 28h/week. I saw this on tv news 1 or 2 weeks ago.

It sounds quite strange since it is in Japan. It is pretending to be what it isn't really. I am happy to be planning a visit to Kyoto. I have dreamed of visiting Japan for a long time.

There is also a Swedish town in California, where people dress like Swedes and eat Swedish food.

Never been to Sweden. Never been to Japan. Never even been to California. If it weren't for the Internet, I wouldn't go anywhere!
