Rick Derlinger is being called a hero for his quick actions on Wednesday morning at the Valley Cafe which is located in Wadsworth Ohio when an elderly man was choking on what appeared to be a small piece of food that was lodged inside his throat. Derlinger used the Heimlich Maneuver on the choking victim by putting his arms around the man's waist and squeezed him at least three times before the food particle came out from the victim's mouth. Derlinger was attempting to get into show business as an actor in New York City even though he is not a major television star, during his work at restaurants he did see how to use the Heimlich Manuever on a choking victim. Derlinger moved to Ohio since his girlfriend Nikki Sawhill decided to return to her hometown in Akron. It was a good thing that Derlinger was at the cafe and decided to take action to save a life at the Valley Cafe on Wednesday morning.

I read where Heimlich himself was able to save someone's life with this manoeuvre not too long before he passed away.

I do not use the Heimlich Manuever since I am one who believes that slapping a person on the back is what I have been taught.
