Newington Connecticut police officer Tyler Grant was at the right place at the right time on Tuesday morning when he was on patrol on the Berlin Turnpike when he saw a fire on the second floor of the Grantmoor Motor Lodge. Grant was at the parking lot at the local Wal Mart when he noticed smoke and relayed the message to the police headquarters in Newington that he needed backup officers to assist him to evacuate the guest inside the hotel when the fire started. Grant went to the hotel rooms trying to get the attention of the guests to leave their rooms since a fire started around 4 o' clock in the morning. Grant as well as his fellow police officers were able to get the guests out of the hotel to safety. Grant, one child and one adult were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital. The Newington Fire Department arrived to put out the fire. The fire marshal believes that the fire was set on purpose. Detectives with the Newington Police Force are investigating the cause of the fire which everyone got out safely thanks to the cooperation of the authorities in Newington Connecticut.
