Nigerians in the Winter Olympics??

Love the Winter Olympics but this year it’s very anti social hours over here in England. It starts to get going when we go to bed and then finishes when we are at work. But I love my sport so staying up for events like the Downhill and slalom skiing and the really cool snowboard stuff. Those guys on the jumps and rails on the snowboards are super brave, especially the girls. People have died doing these events. They are dangerous, especially in the Korean wind and biting cold. Because the schedule got behind the girls were forced to jump the big ramps in that wind and only 5 of the 25 girls didn’t crash in the final. I also love snowcross where the guys race on snowboards on the undulating track. That is one of those sports you would love to do. Tonight we have Great Britain’s best chance of men’s medal in the Skeleton, the sledge thing where you lay down looking forward on your belly, compared to the luge where you lay the other way on your back, both scary. A Korean guy is well clear after three runs but I guess he secretly practices all year and knows the track like no one else. Before this week Asia had never meddled in a sliding event like this. GB sat in bronze medal position going into the final leg. Jamaica and Nigeria are also on the track in the bobsleigh and so echoes of Cool Running’s. Alas they don’t have much money and the European coach has already threatened to take away the bobsleigh after the Jamaican team demoted her. Curling is the most boring sport in the games but an event anyone can get good at, basically slow motion ten pin bowling and the strange event where they sweep really quickly behind the big stone thing. What I like about Curling is the other side can also sweep behind your stone to try and change its speed. GB has good medal chances in this event. It’s also an event where women could easily compete against the men and probably beat them. Short track speed skating is our other medal chance, the event where you basically win a medal if you don’t slip over in the final. I’m not a big fan of ice skating or hockey or indeed cross country skiing (the one where most fail the drugs test) but look forward to ski jumping. The girls are allowed to do it this year off the 70 and 90m hills so that should be interesting. Either way I’m bleary eyed and loving it.

I'm enjoying all the events. There are some I like better than others. I do love the figure skating, the bobsled, luge, and skiing. I did watch the snowboarding, and they are all very good.

I don't watch the Winter Olympics at all because we actually hadn't participated in any game until I think four years ago when one brave kid from our country was qualified to join figure skating competition. The same kid participated again this year. I saw the movie Cool Runnings when I was in high school I think. I loved the story.

I rarely watch the Olympics but do love the ice skating whenever I can get to it.
