My Dad hurt himself

My Mom & Dad were on their way to a beach condo when my Dad lifted a box to put into their van and fell. He thinks he cracked a rib. He has a lot of pain in the rib area. When they got to the Condo, they were thinking about going to an Emergency room nearby, when they got to talking to a Maintenance Man. He said recently the same thing happened to him. He went to the Emergency Room and was told there is not much the doctors can do for a cracked rib. You need to take deep breaths and cough to keep the air flowing so fluid doesn't build up in the lungs. He said that is what they will tell you. He said, I just saved you a trip and a fee and it is good you didn't expose yourself to an Emergency room waiting room where you could get exposed to the Flu. So, my parents took his advice. But, my Dad still has pain. I am thinking once they get back from their vacation, they could go to his regular doctor and ask for pain medication. But, hopefully, it wouldn't be the pain pills that are causing the Opiod problem. I wouldn't want him to get addicted. Say a prayer his ribs heal right.

Perhaps he should go to the Doctor if he still keeps getting the rib pain for the just in case and that way he can rest at ease. Maybe he needs support bandages for a while too. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

There is not a lot that can be done, it is true that ribs must heal by themselves. Is he sure that it is a rib?

I don't think I would want to take medical advice from a maintenance person. Hope he gets properly checked out by a doctor and feel better soon.
