Pet Food Recalls

It seems that all the time different pet foods are being recalled because a "certain" problem is found in the foods; whether it's canned, crunchie or treats. It is usually Salmonella that is the problem, but the latest recall???? Kibbles 'n' Bits, Gravy Train and Ol' Roy have been pulled off the shelves because they contain Phenobarbital. Now mind you, that is a Euthanasia medication. How in the HELL does that even exist in the production plants that are making the foods!!!!!!! Is someone trying to control the pet over-population? These recalls happen all the time because some kind of crap got into the foods. Let me guess. The USDA probably thinks it's perfectly fine.

Good information for dog owners. I have certain wet food my cat likes and I stick to the brands I know and trust.

@nanette64 Frightening. Lets just hope they do not have this powder anywhere near a cornflake factory or bakery! otherwise you wake up for breakfast and by 10:00 you will be asleep!

I know, it makes no sense to me @garymarsh6 . That chemical should not be in that building period.

So frightening and sad at the same time. It's getting harder and harder to know what to buy or do these days.

About the only thing left is to just cook their food at home. Organic chicken or beef with rice and a little veggies thrown in.

They use euthanized pets in “meat meal”. Bone meal and the by-products of those 2 too. The cheapest pet foods contain that stuff. I’ve had my cats on super-premium good for over a decade and I’ve been very happy to do it. No question about gross ingredients.

Not to mention chicken beaks and claws @NJChicaa as fillers.

@nanette64 yes, by-products, corn/soy/wheat (known allergens), BHA/BHT (known carcinogens), and sometimes even peanut hulls! It’s even worse with cats because corn (or any carbs) will make them gain weight. They are carnivores. They have absolutely no need for carbs in their diet. All of the cheap cat foods contain cheap carb fillers.

Of course the USDA thinks its fine! They hire meatballs who think its cool to run around in lab coats and pretend to be great scientists. We made our own pet food and had the healthiest animals in the area! We would get a big roast, veggies, rice, and whatever leftovers there were in the fridge and cook them all day. I remember snitching samples when no one was looking.
