The best song of 1959 was “Lonely Teardrops” sung by Jackie Wilson. The song was a big hit on the R&B charts and got listed on the 500 Greatest Songs of All time and on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of The 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. “Lonely Teardrops” was written by Berry Gordy Jr., Gwendolyn Gordey and Roquel “Billy” Davis. Gordy used money from the success of this song to establish Motown Records. The song quickly rose to number one on the R&B chart and became the first top ten hit for Wilson on the Billboard Hot 100. With the success of this song, Wilson got on American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. “Lonely Teardrops” was also the last song Wilson ever sang. He was performing it onstage at Dick Clark’s Good Ol’ Rock and Roll Revue in 1975 when he collapsed and suffered a heart attack. How many of you know this song? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonely_Teardrops

For such a popular song, I'm surprised I've never heard of it before.

@RasmaSandra It seems a few who have commented don't know of it which is strange if it was such a big hit.

I've never heard this one before. But I can hear the familiar b-bop of that time.
