Lemonade/orangeade....yummy!

Since the episode with the kidney infection, my doctor said to drink more citrus juices. I've been making lemonade with bottled lemon juice, water, sugar/Splenda. I know, it's not as good as using real lemons, but it's still good. Today after making a pitcher of lemonade, I decided to cut up some orange slices and throw in there. I didn't think it would make much difference, but it was so delicious! I could taste just a little of the orange and it's very refreshing. I wonder how it would taste with some mango juice. Do you have any suggestions for more citrus?

You could add some grapefruit in there or mango would be good too.

It would be less expensive to add grapefruit juice than mangoes.

My husband was given the same advice for his kidneys, We really like the SImply Lemonade and Limeade. I can't drink anything with Splenda, I get a bad reaction.

@1creekgirl I get pain in my gut and diarrhea. I get blinding headaches from aspartame. Chlorine is produced in the production of Splenda and evidently, I don't react well to it. My doctor had exactly the same sensitivities as I do so it is not uncommon.

What happens to you with Splenda? I can't use aspartame, it makes my vision blurry.

Oh goodness do no use Splenda if you have kidney problems. Animal testing lead to believe that all the artificial sweetener is a health hazard, specifically to the kidneys. I squeeze oranges or grapefruits and I drink the juice, with nothing added.

@1creekgirl Our major supermarkets are no more selling them for this reason.

Maybe grapefruit. Sweetening with Splenda is a good idea.

I love grapefruit even better than the juice. Trouble is, I like to add tons of sweetener to it.

@1creekgirl That's why I'm thinking using Splenda is a good idea.

Maybe some lime or pineapple juice would be good added to it. Or those little mandarin oranges or tangerines. I can't have too much citrus because of my acid reflux. But I love lemonade and still drink it occasionally.

Limes, I just love lime juice @1creekgirl and if it lessens my chance of another kidney stone then I can't get enough.

I drink cranberry juice, but not the unsweetened kind. My kidney doc said that cranberry juice is good for helping prevent kidney infections, but not kidney stones.

I enjoy lemonade. You might try some limes as another kind of additive to your beverage. I've had limeade and it's not bad.

I love lemonade and orange juice but stopped drinking because the acidity is bad for tooth enamel.
