Good morning everyone! Hope that you had a splendid breakfast today. It is the third day of Chinese New Year. Hubby brought my kids and me to visit my parents to wish them a Happy New YeAr. My kids were looking forward to bak kua as photo taken by me. It is also known as pork jerky, a sweet and salty marinated pork that pleased young and old taste bud. However this bak kua is slightly tough to chew, high in cholesterol and fats. So it is best to eat in moderate amount. It is expensive too when sold during festive season. Cost RM 5= USD $2 per small piece, so only the rich and businessmen buy bak kua. Have you tried it? My photo

Yes I had when we went to Singapore more than two years ago. But since last year, we haven't been eating pork so there's no way I'd eat that again.

@peachpurple Nope. It's impossible for me to be a vegetarian.

My boyfriend likes jerky and my late husband did too. My son does not and I have never tried it.

I think we call that "tocino" here. It is a favorite viand of all especially when paired with fried rice for breakfast. I love eating once in a while because it is indeed high in cholesterol.

That pork jerky looks very good. I have made my own jerky before but not in a long time.

Do you buy pork belly or slim meats?
