You can have details of any Vehicle in India by using a SMS based service issued by Government of India for the use of general people.
I am living in NCR area and it works very nicely for me!
What all we need to do is SMS a message 'VAHAN Registration Number of the Vehicle' and send it to 7738299899. Within one or two minutes you will get a message where in you will get details of the Vehicle.
Like Owners Name, Type of Vehicle, Till What date the Tax is paid and in which Jurisdiction the Vehicle is situated etc.
My dear friends in India, have you ever tried this service, if not please give a try and let me know your opinion about this service!
And for those friends out side India , do you have any service like this in your country?

Yes,you are right dear @JudyEv ! Because of this they can verify if the vehicle is legally owned by the person driving or it is a stolen one! In case of any suspicion police can always use this information to trace the person driving the car! Thanks!

Is this an App, or just a sms based service. This is indeed a good service for us.
